Yashasvi Jaiswal is highly likely to face a strong punishment from ICC for his spat with Asitha Fernando. If the incident is deemed a serious breach of the MCC Code of Conduct, the India opener could face disciplinary action. He could be banned for either five Tests, 10 ODIs or even receive a lifetime ban if found guilty of a Level 4 breach. Severe acts of violence, threats or abuse against players, match officials or spectators fall under Level 4 breaches.

India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal nearly came to blows with Sri Lanka pacer Asitha Fernando on Day 1 of their second Test in Colombo. After being hit for three boundaries in the over, Fernando managed to dismiss Jaiswal on the final ball and appeared to give him a send-off. Jaiswal, who was walking back, turned around to confront Fernando. The two exchanged a few words, clashed heads and there was also a push, before they were separated by the rest of the Sri Lankan team.

The highlight of the day was Devdutt Padikkal’s quiet authority, with his technique and temperament adding immense depth and putting the long-standing debate around India’s number three spot comprehensively to rest. Though he endured a few nervous moments and survived a couple of dropped catches early in his innings, Padikkal swiftly locked in to become a deeply calming presence at the crease. The highlight of his mastery was his method against the spinners -- judging length exceptionally early and playing late off the back foot.
 

Devdutt Padikkal struck his second consecutive Test century as India reached 300 for 5 at stumps on the opening day of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Sunday. Captain Shubman Gill made 50, while opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with 45 and 43 respectively. Dhruv Jurel (7 batting) and Saransh Jain (4 batting) were at the crease at the end of the day's play.
