End of a dominant Day 1 for Team India. KL Rahul and Shubman Gill slammed excellent hundreds, while Sai Sudharsan made 81 and Rishabh Pant also got to fifty. Afghanistan have been made to toil in the heat. The visitors made a few errors early on in the day, and failed to create many opportunities. Gill, Pant and the rest of the Indian batting will hope to stretch the first innings score to over 500 on Day 2.

Half-century for Rishabh Pant! A gentle tap down to third-man to get to his half-century, off 70 balls. Had a bit of a shaky start, but he has accelerated brilliantly and gotten to his fifty.

Rishabh Pant with another boundary! A cheeky lap by the southpaw to guide it over fine-leg for 4. Pant is 2 runs away from his half-century. Less than five minutes to go on Day 1, so can he get to his fifty before Stumps?

CENTURY for Shubman Gill! After three dots in a row, Gill gets to the three-figure mark with a nudge down to square-leg. 100 off just 138 balls for the Indian captain. It's the 11th century of his Test career. Gill continues his remarkable form since becoming Test captain.

Walking in at No. 4, Gill has oozed class today, not providing Afghanistan with even a half chance.

Rishabh Pant enters the 40s. The left-hander slams it down the ground for another boundary, and is now on verge of getting to his half-century. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill is up to 99.

While Team India play their Test against Afghanistan, the headlines in the cricket world today have been dominated by India's T20I squad selection. Suryakumar Yadav has been replaced by Shreyas Iyer as India's T20I captain, and he has now made a social media post after the announcement. READ HERE

The boundaries have dried up a little, but Gill and Pant are motoring along comfortably. Shubman Gill is now up to 89 off 121, with two overs to go till the second new ball comes in. Rishabh Pant is on 33 off 50. Can both Gill and Pant reach their milestones today itself?

The boundaries are getting more and more frequent now. Two more from Shubman Gill's blade. A firm cut for 4, and then lovely timing for 4 more through mid-wicket. Gill is up to 77, and will be hoping to get to his hundred before Stumps.

70 overs done on Day 1, and India are cruising at 311/3. KL Rahul slammed a ton, Sai Sudharsan narrowly missed out on a maiden Test hundred, and now Shubman Gill is looking set to go to three figures as well. Rishabh Pant has made his early lifelines count and accelerated in typical style.

With about an hour of play remaining, expect India to go past 350 by Stumps.

Rishabh Pant goes berserk! He smashes not one, not two, but three sixes in an over against Abdul Malik. First one, Pant dances down the track and slams it over long-on. The next one, he comes down the track again, turns the ball into a full-toss and slams it for 6 more. Third one, he rocks onto his back foot and smashes it for 6 over deep mid-wicket! 300 up for India.

And to top it all of, Malik bowls yet another no-ball.

Rishabh Pant gets two lifelines in one over! A lovely delivery from Abdul Malik zips past Pant's outside edge, and is taken by the wicket-keeper. Appeal by Afghanistan, but umpire gives not out. And guess what? It's a no-ball too. In fact, it's a massive no-ball. But the drama continues, as Malik bowls another no-ball on the next ball!

And to top it off, Pant mistimes it straight back to the bowler, who appeared to drop it at first, but replays show there was a slight bounce before it reached the bowler.

Shubman Gill is on a roll! Even the edges are going for 4 now. Gill goes for a flick, but a thick edge flies away for a boundary through gully. Couple of balls later, Gill is given a ball in the slot and he times it through mid-on for 4. Classy stuff.

Three boundaries in a row! Shubman Gill slams a gorgeous cover drive for 4, and then cuts away the next ball for 4 more. Another boundary then leg-byes down fine-leg, and then he gets to half-century with a single. 50 off just 68 balls for the Indian captain!

CENTURY for KL Rahul! The India opener flicks it through mid-wicket, and is able to run two and complete his hundred. 12th Test century for Rahul, and 11th as an opener! Fine knock, and he has laid an ideal platform for Team India.

Oh, and he's gone! Rahul hits it straight to cover on the very next ball. He is gone for exactly 100. Sharp, low catch by Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

60 overs are up on Day 1. We have just over an hour's play remaining. KL Rahul is unbeate on 98, while Shubman Gill is going well on 39. Let's see how long Rahul takes to get to his century!

KL Rahul cuts it wonderfully through the covers for 4, and moves up to 97 with that shot. The India opener is now just 3 runs away from away from his 12th Test century.

We are back for the post-Tea session! Shubman Gill has made a brisk start, and he is playing at a strike-rate of nearly 80. Gill has even slammed a maximum against Nangeyalia Kharote, and then hit Omarzai for a boundary! Five boundaries and a six already for the Indian skipper.

This marks the end of the second session on Day 1 of the one-off Test between India and Afghanistan in Mullanpur. At Tea, India's score read 209/2 in 50 overs. Currently, KL Rahul (81*) and Shubman Gill (20*) are unbeaten for India. 

KL Rahul and Shubman Gill are forming a good partnership. They are getting runs regularly and creating trouble for Afghanistan bowlers. Now, India have also brought up their 200 at a loss of just two wickets.

OUT!!! Saleem Saifi gets the second wicket of the day and this time, he dismisses Sai Sudharsan for 81. Sai Sudharsan leans across to drive hard and all he manages is a thick outside edge. Wicketkeeper Afsar Zazai dives to his left and takes a good low catch. Second wicket for India and the 139-run partnership is also broken. A big relief for the visitors.

Sai Sudharsan hits a brilliant boundary on Zia-Ur-Rehman's delivery. An overpitched delivery, the line is too straight as well and Sai Sudharsan flicks it away with aplomb. In total, Shahidi conceded six runs.

Oh! Afghanistan star Sharafuddin Ashraf suffers an injury and has gone off the field. While trying to stop a shot from Sai Sudharsan, Ashraf dives to his left and saves runs. However, he ends up hurting his leg as the team physio comes out to check on him. Moments later, he was taken off the field. Not a good sign for the visitors.

FIFTY!!! Sai Sudharsan hits back-to-back boundaries on Nangeyalia Kharote and completes his half-century. He takes 67 deliveries to bring up his fifty and India continue to dominate Afghanistan. The visitors need a wicket at the earliest, in order to bounce back into the match.

FIFTY!!! KL Rahul takes a single on Nangeyalia Kharote's delivery and completes his half-century in style. It is his 21st half-century in Test cricket and he brings it up in 86 balls. India are solid at the moment with Rahul and Sai Sudharsan forming a terrific partnership.

KL Rahul hit two back-to-back boundaries in the previous over of Nangeyalia Kharote. In total, Kharote conceded eight runs. With this, Rahul has also breached the 40-run mark and inching closer towards his half-century. Brilliant batting from both Rahul and Sai Sudharsan.

Hello and welcome to the second session on Day 1 of the one-off Test between India and Afghanistan. KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan are back on the crease to take India's score ahead. Meanwhile, Afghanistan bowlers are eager to break this string partnership. 

This marks the end of the first session on Day 1 of the one-off Test between India and Afghanistan. At Lunch, India's score read 96/1 with KL Rahul (37*) and Sai Sudharsan (32*) standing unbeaten. For Afghanistan, Saleem Saifi took the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal for 24. Stay tuned as he would be right back after the lunch break. 

20 overs of India's innings are up and India have suddenly changed gears. Both KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan are getting boundaries and India are racing towards the 100-run mark. Afghanistan need to get another wicket at the earliest, in order to control the run flow.

Sai Sudharsan and KL Rahul's partnership has totally brought India out from the setback of Yashavi Jaiswal's dismissal. The duo is fearlessly dealing in boundaries and keeping the momentum on India's side. In the previous over of debutant Nangeyalia Kharote, the duo scored eight runs.

India get a big over as KL Rahul Sai Sudharsan take on Saleem Saifi. In the previous over of the pacer, the duo hit one boundary each as Saifi conceded nine runs. Sudharsan is looking in a good touch with the bat today and will be eager to play a big knock. With this, India also go past the 50-run mark.

After staying silent for the first 10 deliveries, Sai Sudharsan goes off the mark in style with a terrific boundary on Azmatullah Omarzai's ball. Full and around off stump, Sai plays a very controlled flick. Ensured it only rolled along the ground by rolling his wrists.

After the departure of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan walks in to bat, alongside KL Rahul. The duo is now looking to stitch another strong partnership to keep India in the dominating position. In the previous over, Azmatullah Omarzai delivered a maiden as Afghanistan eye more wickets.

OUT!!! A big moment for Afghanistan and a sigh of relief too as Saleem Saifi provides them with the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal for 24. Jaiswal tries to glance it away. Gets it too fine for his liking with a faint inside edge and the keeper makes no mistake. Terrific delivery and Afghanistan have bounced back in style.

Oh No!!! What have you done, Hashmatullah Shahidi. Zia-Ur-Rehman trapped KL Rahul and almost provided Afghanistan with their first wicket. The ball had hit the thick edge of Rahul's bat before Afsar Zazai took an easy catch. The on-field umpire signalled not out and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who was standing at the second slip, urged Shahidi to go for DRS. However, the Afghan skipper refused to take DRS and it was later confirmed through Ultraegde that the ball had actually hit Rahul's bat. What a blunder from Afghanistan.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul are looking in good touch with the bat and confidently taking India ahead in the game. 10 overs of the first innings are up and the hosts are brilliantly dominating the game. Jaiswal is unbeaten at 20, while Rahul is batting at 16. Afghanistan need a wicket at the earliest.

FOUR!!! KL Rahul gets his second boundary of the day on Zia-Ur-Rehman's delivery. An overpitched ball on leg and Rahul puts it away. Angled in from wide of the crease, the line is too straight and Rahul beats the diving midwicket fielder with his flick. Good shot from Rahul.

The partnership between KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal is getting stronger with every over. Afghanistan bowlers desperately need a wicket right now to break this stand. In the previous over, Azmatullah Omarzai coceded four runs. This included a boundary from Jaiswal.

KL Rahul hits a terrific boundary on the last delivery of Zia-Ur-Rehman's over. With this boundary, he completed his 9,000 runs in First-Class cricket. Both Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal are playing smart cricket and keeping the scoreboard moving for India.

After conceding six runs in the first over, Afghanistan made a good comeback. Azmatullah Omarzai bowled a maiden over and control the flow of runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul are not taking any risks right now and looking for perfect opportunities to get runs.

FOUR!!! India off to a good start in the first Test against Afghanistan as Yashasvi Jaiswal hits a boundary. Facing Zia-Ur-Rehman, Jaiswal drives it towards the mid-off as the ball comfortably passes through the boundary rope. In the first over, KL Rahul and Jaiswal scored six runs.

The wait is finally over as the One-Off Test between India and Afghanistan finally begins. For India, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal have opened the proceedings. On the other hand, Zia-Ur-Rehman will be bowling the first over for Afghanistan.

India skipper Shubman Gill wins the toss and opts to bat against Afghanistan in the one-off Test in Mullanpur. 

"It was only a few days ago we were here, white ball, coloured clothes, floodlights, but we are back with red ball again. The start of the home season as India hosts Afghanistan for this one-off Test. And for the first time here at New Chandigarh, becoming the 31st Test venue here in India. It was such a wonderful batting surface during the IPL. It looks fantastic. The ground once again is in outstanding conditions. The pitch looks beautiful. There's no doubt you might see some deterioration as this Test match goes on, but I think for the first couple of days it's going to be beautiful for batting," reckon Deep Dasgupta and Michael Clarke. 

As per the visuals coming in from Mullanpur, Manav Suthar receives the debut cap from spinner Kuldeep Yadav. This will bring a strong hand to India's bowling lineup.
