---|---|---|---|---|---|
Yashasvi Jaiswal | 56 | 118 | 9 | 0 | 47.45 |
c Shadman Islam b Nahid Rana
41.4 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Nahid Rana with a massive wicket for Bangladesh and he certainly enjoyed that one. Rana steams in from over the wicket and bowls it just short of a good length on off and middle at a thunderous 148.6 kph. The ball just wobbles away after pitching and Yashasvi Jaiswal gets a bit squared up while trying to block off the back foot. Jaiswal gets the outside edge that goes straight into the bread basket of Shadman Islam at first slip. End of a fighting knock from Jaiswal worth 56 (118) and the 48-run stand between Jaiswal and Rahul ends with India's half side into the dugout now. 144/5

Rohit Sharma C | 6 | 19 | 1 | 0 | 31.57 |
c Najmul Hossain Shanto b Hasan Mahmud
5.1 OUT! EDGED AND GONE! The writing was on the wall with that one and Hasan Mahmud does get rid of the Indian skipper with a lovely delivery. Immaculate length, neither full nor short and on off stump, this one angles in but leaves the right-hander after pitching. Rohit Sharma stays put and looks to block with soft hands but the outside edge is found and Najmul Hossain Shanto takes a good low catch at second slip. India 14/1 as Sharma goes for 6 (19). 14/1
|
|||||
Shubman Gill | 8 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
c Litton Das b Hasan Mahmud
7.3 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Shubman Gill will be kicking himself and that is a soft dismissal. Hasan Mahmud looks for the delivery that angles back in as he knows Gill has a weakness with that but gets the line wrong and spills it down leg. Gill looks to flick and is drawn well forward and somehow manages to edge it down to the keeper. Litton Das moves swiftly to his left and takes the catch. Gill departs for a duck and India in early trouble at 28/2! 28/2
|
|||||
Virat Kohli | 6 | 6 | 0 | 0 | 100 |
c Litton Das b Hasan Mahmud
9.2 OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Hasan Mahmud will be on cloud nine as he gets a third wicket and the Indian right-handers just can't seem to play against him at the moment. Lovely length from Mahmud but the line is a bit wide of the off stump. It still draws the batter forward and Virat Kohli looks to drive with hard hands and that slight away movement means a faint outside edge is found. The ball nestles into the gloves of Litton Das behind the stumps and India in a spot of real bother now at 34/3 inside the first 10 overs. 34/3
|
|||||
Rishabh Pant Wk | 39 | 52 | 6 | 0 | 75 |
c Litton Das b Hasan Mahmud
25.3 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Hasan Mahmud redeems himself and in what style! He gets his fourth wicket and Rishabh Pant falls for the trap of that width offered. Hasan Mahmud bowls it way outside off on a hard length, slightly nipping away from the batter, Rishabh Pant goes back and lazily attempts for the cut shot. He kind of wanted to leave it but that lack of clarity in decision-making means, he is late on the shot. And with no proper weight transfer on the back foot, he hangs his bat away from his body and the bottom edge is found. Litton Das behind the pegs makes no mistake as he moves towards the direction of the ball to his left and takes a simple catch. Rishabh Pant is animated with that shot and India are 96/4. Rishabh Pant departs on a well-made 39 (52). 96/4
|
|||||
KL Rahul | 16 | 52 | 1 | 0 | 30.76 |
c Zakir Hasan b Mehidy Hasan
42.2 OUT! TAKEN! That is a fine, fine catch from Zakir Hasan at short leg and all of a sudden, Bangladesh are back on top. Mehidy Hasan keeps floating the ball up and drifts this one onto the legs, KL Rahul looks to just flick it away but the ball goes right off the inside edge and goes low to the right of short leg where Zakir is quick to react and gets across to pouch it with both hands. India in deep trouble at 144 for 6 as Rahul departs for a sluggish 16 (52). India have now lost both their set batters within the span of an over and now, they need to rebuild once again. But this has been a fine bowling display from the Bangladeshi bowlers. 144/6
|
|||||
Ravindra Jadeja | 86 | 124 | 10 | 2 | 69.35 |
c Litton Das b Taskin Ahmed
82.1 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! CAUGHT BEHIND! The new ball has done the trick for Bangladesh and Taskin Ahmed provides the breakthrough! Taskin Ahmed hits the right length, just outside off and the ball lands on the seam and gets that spongy bounce off the deck, it skids and comes off quickly at the batter and nips away a shade as well. Ravindra Jadeja is hurried into the shot and hangs his bat away from his body and a genuine outside edge is found as the ball gets heavy on Jadeja. Litton Das does the rest behind the pegs with a regulation grab. Ravindra Jadeja misses his century and departs on 86 (124). Taskin Ahmed breaks the 199-run stand between Jadeja and Ashwin. 343/7
|
|||||
Ravichandran Ashwin | 113 | 133 | 11 | 2 | 84.96 |
c Najmul Hossain Shanto b Taskin Ahmed
90.5 OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! Taskin Ahmed gets his third wicket and another good sharp catch by Shanto! Taskin has looked much improved as compared to the previous day. Taskin hits the hard length and keeps it a shade outside the off stump. Ashwin gets on the front foot and looks for lofted drive on the rise, but doesn't get the connection right. The bat twists in his hand. The ball flies off the toe end of the bat over widish mid off region where Najmul Hossain Shanto runs to his left and takes a good catch. Ravichandran Ashwin departs for a gritty knock of 113 (133) and gets a huge standing applause from the Chepauk crowd as he takes a long walk back to the dressing room. India 9 down on 374. 374/9
|
|||||
Akash Deep | 17 | 30 | 4 | 0 | 56.66 |
c Najmul Hossain Shanto b Taskin Ahmed
88.5 OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! Najmul Hossain Shanto the Bangladeshi skipper makes no mistake! Taskin Ahmed spears in with a wobbly seam position, full and on off, Akash Deep wanted to pick the bones out of it. He swings wildly across at it and tries to hit it very hard and totally loses his shape in this process. Ends up getting a thick leading edge that flies over the cover region. Najmul Hossain Shanto at the covers locks his eyes on the ball, settles underneath it and takes a fine catch. India 8 down now, but Akash Deep departs after a decent contribution. 367/8
|
|||||
Jasprit Bumrah | 7 | 9 | 1 | 0 | 77.77 |
c Zakir Hasan b Hasan Mahmud
91.2 OUT! FINALLY, A FIVE-WICKET HAUL FOR HASAN MAHMUD AS HE WRAPS THE INDIAN INNINGS WITH A HUGE ACHIEVEMENT! Good length ball around the off stump and it deviates away from the batter after pitching. Bumrah is rooted in the crease and approaches it tentatively getting in an awkward position, plays it away from his body and with an angled bat and gets the outside edge that flies straight into the hands of Zakir Hasan stationed at third slip. Hasan Mahmud becomes the first Bangladeshi pacer to achieve a five-wicket haul on Indian soil, and a very well-deserved one. 376/10

b Jasprit Bumrah
1 OUT! TIMBER! Is there anyone like him? Jasprit Bumrah draws first blood in the first over itself. Bumrah changes the angle of attack for the last ball by coming from around the stumps. This is pitched up in the channel outside off and seems to be holding its line. Shadman Islam gets a bit across the off stump and shoulders arms but the ball jags back in and knocks over the top of off stump as Shadman is left completely bamboozled. Bangladesh 2/1 after the first over! 2/1

|||||
Zakir Hasan | 3 | 22 | 0 | 0 | 13.63 |
b Akash Deep
8.1 OUT! BOWLED'EM! Akash Deep betters his line and gets his man as well! Akash bowls this one nice and full on off stump and at 138.4 clicks. Zakir Hasan was just distracted by something behind the sightscreen before the delivery and there might have been a lapse in concentration. Akash does get the ball to angle back in a fair bit as Zakir is drawn forward and leaves a huge gap between bat and pad which the ball goes through and shatters into middle stump. Bangladesh 22/2 already! 22/2

Najmul Hossain Shanto C | 20 | 30 | 3 | 0 | 66.66 |
c Virat Kohli b Mohammed Siraj
11.1 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! It was coming and the way Mohammed Siraj has bowled so far, he deserves it as well. Perfect length from Siraj, just a tad full and on off, getting the ball to nip away at almost 140 clicks. Najmul Hossain Shanto gets halfway forward and just pushes at it with hard hands and gets nicked off. The ball goes quickly to the second slip where Virat Kohli takes a sharp catch to his right. Shanto looked goo but has to depart for 20 (30). 36/4

Mominul Haque | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
b Akash Deep
8.2 OUT! CLEANED HIM UP! Wow, Akash Deep with another beauty and all of a sudden, he is on a hat-trick. Akash keeps the pace up at 139.3 clicks and bowls a very similar delivery to the last one, just a tad bit straight though. The ball pitches full on off and jags back in sharply, Mominul Haque is unable to get well forward and jars at it with hard hands. The ball beats the inside edge to flick the front pad and rattle the stumps behind. Monimul departs for a golden duck and Bangladesh in 'Deep' trouble early on. What a dream start this has been for Akash Deep as he is thrilled to bits, and why not? 22/3

Mushfiqur Rahim | 8 | 14 | 2 | 0 | 57.14 |
c KL Rahul b Jasprit Bumrah
12.5 OUT! TAKEN! Another fine grab in the slips and the Indian pacers are all over Bangladesh right now. Jasprit Bumrah is relentless and he gets his second wicket now. Bumrah clocks in at 139.9 kph and delivers it on a good length on off stump, getting the ball to straighten beautifully off the deck. Mushfiqur Rahim is caught back on the crease and leaves his bat hanging, the outside edge is found and it flies to the right of KL Rahul at second slip but he does well to stick out both hands and almost grabs it behind him. Bangladesh have lost half their side for just 40 runs, trailing by 336 more runs. 40/5
|
|||||
Shakib Al Hasan | 32 | 64 | 5 | 0 | 50 |
c Rishabh Pant b Ravindra Jadeja
30.3 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! A huge appeal for caught behind and the on-field umpires discuss for a few seconds and eventually send it upstairs to check for a fair catch. Jadeja quickens the pace and lands it flat and full in the line of the stumps, Shakib Al Hasan sits down on his knee for a reverse sweep but is a bit late on the shot due to that excessive pace from Jadeja. Ends up inside edging it and now the question remains whether the ball has lobbed up straight off his boots or has bounced on the ground. Rishabh Pant meanwhile is very quick to react, moves forward and pouches the ball safely at short leg. The replays eventually come up and affirm that the ball has indeed deflected off Shakib's boot and not the ground. It is deemed as Out and Shakib Al Hasan too, walks back after an unnecessary shot. Bangladesh in all sorts of trouble now with 7 men down. 92/7

Litton Das Wk | 22 | 42 | 3 | 0 | 52.38 |
c sub Dhruv Jurel b Ravindra Jadeja
28.2 OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! It was all about showing some patience but Das holes out in an attempt to go against the run of play! Ravindra Jadeja bowls his regular quicker off-spinner, lands it flat and on the stumps on a fullish length, it turns a few degrees away from the batter. Litton Das premediates the sweep shot and sits down on his knee to execute the same. Goes through the shot, brings out the broom and aerially hits it against the spin. Doesn't time it well and the ball lobs in the air off the outer half of the bat. Hence, he does not get the desired power and distance on that one. It travels in the air towards deep square leg where Dhruv Jurel the substitute fielder, judges it perfection and takes a very fine catch. 91/6

c Virat Kohli b Jasprit Bumrah
36.5 OUT! TAKEN IN THE SLIPS! Bumrah came back for the last burst before the Tea break and delivered magnificently. Jasprit Bumrah lands it on the off stump line, getting it to nip away a shade off the deck, it skids off really quick and comes to the batter quickly. Hasan Mahmud is cramped up a bit for room and finds himself squared up. Opens up his body and hangs his bat away in the air, and a healthy outside edge is found. The ball travels flat and just above the ground towards Virat Kohli stationed at the second slip. Kohli squats towards it and takes a very sharp catch at his chest level by reverse cupping it. Hasan Mahmud will be kicking himself for that so will Bangladesh for this sorry-looking scorecard. Bumrah gets his third wicket and that will be TEA ON DAY 2! 112/8
|
|||||
Taskin Ahmed | 11 | 21 | 1 | 0 | 52.38 |
b Jasprit Bumrah
42.4 OUT! BOWLED'EM! RIGHT THROUGH HIS DEFENCE! Bumrah was hammering those short-pitch deliveries and now changes his length, and bowls a hostile yorker! Amazing set-up by Bumrah and Bangladesh lose their 9th wicket. Jasprit Bumrah bowls a pinpoint yorker right in the front of the base of the off and middle stumps, Taskin Ahmed expects another shorter one, but sees the yorker and tries to stay leg side to dig it out. By the time he could bring his bat down, the ball whizzes past and rattles the furniture in a flash. Bumrah gets his fourth. Taskin Ahmed departs on 11. 130/9

Nahid Rana | 11 | 11 | 2 | 0 | 100 |
b Mohammed Siraj
47.1 OUT! DRAGGED ON! SIRAJ WRAPS THINGS IN STYLE! Mohammed Siraj charges in from over the stumps and lands it on a fullish length, it nips back in as well, Nahid Rana clears his front foot and goes for a slash with a horizontal bat but plays it a bit away from the body and ends up chopping it with the inside edge. It crashes into the stumps in the blink of an eye and Siraj ends up with a couple of wickets to his name as well. Bangladesh are rocked and end up on a sorry-looking score of 149. 149/10

6.4 OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Yashasvi Jaiswal played and missed the cover drive a couple of times in the last over and now, he has nicked one through to the keeper. Nahid Rana steams in and serves a full and wide one at 142.8 clicks, just slanting it away. Jaiswal attempts an expansive cover drive but is done by the extra pace and the outside edge is found. Litton Das moves swiftly to his left and pouches it safely. India 2 down for just 28, a similar story to the first innings. 28/2

Rohit Sharma C | 5 | 7 | 1 | 0 | 71.42 |
c Zakir Hasan b Taskin Ahmed
2.3 OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Identical dismissal for Rohit Sharma from the previous innings and Taskin Ahmed draws first blood! Taskin Ahmed lands it on the back of a length, it skids from the middle stump line and comes off very rapidly on the batter with a spongy bounce and leaves the batter after pitching. As a result, Rohit Sharma gets cramped up for room and opens up his body with his bat hanging away in the air and an outside edge is found that flies straight into the hands of Zakir Hasan at the third slip who takes a fine catch. 19.2 OUT! LBW! A huge, huge shout and eventually, the finger goes up. A wicket against the run of play and Virat Kohli has a chat with Shubman Gill before walking back to the hut. Cleverly bowled by Mehidy Hasan as he darts this one in full and quick around off, Kohli looks to get a stride across and play across the line but ends up playing all around it. The ball pings him in front of off stump and the finger is raised. The only question was of the impact which seems to be in line and Kohli throws away a decent start as he departs for 17 (37). India are now 67/3 with a lead of 294 runs. But surprisingly, the replay later on shows that there was indeed a spike when the ball passed close to the bat. Although, it is not yet sure whether the spike was off the bat in contact with the ground or with the ball. The only person who would've known about the nick was Virat Kohli but he didn't opt for a review. A huge moment in the game, and everyone in the dugout is in a state of shock including Gill on the crease after seeing it on the giant screen. 67/3

55.3 OUT! TAKEN! You live by the sword, you die by it! Pant was looking to go after everything and perishes in the attempt to do so. However, he's played a brilliant knock. It was probably pre decided that once he gets to his ton, he'll go after everything. Got a boundary on the last ball and now falls. Steps out. Hasan drags his length back a little. Pant still swings. This goes off the inner half, quickly to the left of Hasan. He reacts well and takes it. 234/4

16.2 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! WOW, WHAT A CATCH FROM JAISWAL! He has taken an absolute screamer and finally, India get the first breakthrough. A hard-earned one but Bumrah does the trick. Jasprit Bumrah spears it on the back of a length, and keeps the line outside the off side, it gets a bit of an extra bounce and skids on quickly after pitching. Zakir Hasan gets hurried on the shot and the ball gets heavier on him as well. As a result, he doesn't move his feet and hangs his bat away from his body, and a healthy outside edge is found. The ball carries flat and low in the air towards the right of gully where Yashasvi Jaiswal quickly reacts to it, dives to his wrong side to his right and plucks it out of thin air. And suddenly, the crowd has found its voice in Chennai. 62/1

c Shubman Gill b Ravichandran Ashwin
21.3 OUT! CAUGHT! Catch it is the call! Did that carry? It certainly has and Shadman Islam has to depart now! Ashwin gets his first wicket and Bangladesh have lost both their openers now within the span of half an hour or so. Ashwin bowls it flat and quick on a length, in front of the pegs, Shadman Islam gets across a tad and lazily tries to nudge it away to the leg side, but in this process, he airs it flat and towards Shubman Gill stationed at short mid-wicket. Gill reacts alertly and moves his body low and to the right, and takes a very sharp catch, just inches above the ground. He falls over but manages well to sustain the ball in his hand. A soft dismissal for Shadman Islam as he departs on 35. Also, this is Ravichandran Ashwin's first wicket in this Test. 86/2

c Jasprit Bumrah b Ravindra Jadeja
59 OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! Jadeja gets his second and Shanto's brilliant innings come to an end. Bangladesh lose their 8th and the most important wicket and now India can sense a win! Jadeja sticks to dart the ball in quick, and just throws it wider outside off, on a shade fuller length, Shanto swings hard at it and looks to lift it over covers but the ball skids through and comes quickly to the bat. Shanto, as a result, doesn't connect it through the middle and slices it up in the air. The ball swirls over in the overcast skies where Bumrah from covers runs back and takes a fantastic sliding catch. But nonetheless, a true captain's knock from Najmul Hossain Shanto as he departs on a well-constructed 82. 222/8

Mominul Haque | 13 | 24 | 3 | 0 | 54.16 |
b Ravichandran Ashwin
30 OUT! KNOCKED HIM OVER! Ashwin strikes and gets another man, his second wicket! Number three down! Tosses it up on the middle and off channel. This lands and turns away a little off the deck. Haque is drawn forward to defend but he plays inside the line of the ball anticipating it to stay straight. Instead, the ball turns enough to beat the outside edge and hit the off pole. Lovely delivery and India further press their opponents in this game. Mominul Haque, who looked a bit rusty for most of his innings departs on 13. Ashwin's joy knows no bounds and Chepauk again roars in cheers as the local boy strikes. Bangladesh now 124/3. 124/3

Mushfiqur Rahim | 13 | 11 | 1 | 1 | 118.18 |
c KL Rahul b Ravichandran Ashwin
33.4 OUT! TAKEN! Rahim falls. Ashwin has another one now. This is tossed up on off. Rahim looks to go over mid on but this one turns back in just a little and he fails to keep it along the ground, ending up hitting it off the inner half of the bat, just above the ground and flat towards mid on. Rahul dives forward, maintains his fingers under the ball and takes it inches above the ground. They check upstairs to see if it is a clean catch and it is deemed that Rahul did extremely well to do so. Mushfiqur Rahim departs without making much of an impact and suddenly, a procession of wickets for Bangladesh as the spin is doing the trick now. India, right on top. 146/4

Shakib Al Hasan | 25 | 56 | 3 | 0 | 44.64 |
c Yashasvi Jaiswal b Ravichandran Ashwin
51.4 OUT! TAKEN! Ravichandran Ashwin comes into the attack and gets the breakthrough right away, his fourth of this innings as well. Lovely bit of flight on that one, drifted in a tad full and onto middle and leg, Shakib Al Hasan prods to block it off but the ball just takes an inside edge and clips the bat to go behind short leg. Yashasvi Jaiswal over there dives to his left and takes a brilliant low catch, he's been brilliant in the catching positions this game. End of Shakib's resistance as he departs for 25 (56). Also, number 520 for Ashwin as he overtakes the great Courtney Walsh in terms of wickets in Tests. What a brilliant feat for Ravichandran Ashwin! 194/5

54.4 OUT! EDGED AND GONE! The writing seemed to be on the wall there for Litton Das and Ravindra Jadeja does get his first wicket of this innings. Lovely bit of flight on that one, getting it to drop as well around off. Das gets on the front foot and pushes at it but the ball just grips and turns away, catching the outside edge and goes straight into the clutches of Rohit Sharma at first slip who takes a sharp catch. Bangladesh reeling now at 205/6! India just 4 wickets away from the win with Bangladesh needing 310 more to win. 205/6

57.5 OUT! CAUGHT! A complete lapse in concentration from Mehidy Hasan and its that man again, Ravichandran Ashwin with another five-fer that too in front of the home crowd and his family as well. A 37th five-wicket haul in Test matches for Ashwin, equalling the late and great Shane Warne as well, just behind Muralitharan's 67 five-wicket haul, a staggering feat indeed. Ashwin drags the length back and flights the ball up on middle and leg, Mehidy skips down the track but doesn't quite get to the pitch of the ball and yet he tries to force the lofted shot. The ball goes high and down to long on where Ravindra Jadeja is stationed and he takes a simple catch. Bangladesh going down in a hurry now. 222/7
