Haroon Lorgat joins Sri Lanka Cricket as advisor

Haroon Lorgat, the former chief executive of the International Cricket Council, has been appointed special advisor to Sri Lanka Cricket.

The Sri Lankan board made the announcement on Tuesday, adding that Lorgat would work with SLC in an advisory capacity until October 31, 2012. Lorgat had laid down office as the chief executive of the ICC at the end of June this year.

Lorgat's tenure with SLC will include the World Twenty20, to be hosted in Sri Lanka between September 18 and October 7, 2012.

While Lorgat, 52, expressed his desire to assist SLC in their desire to improve their standing in world cricket, Upali Dharmadasa, the SLC president, added, "He has a wealth of knowledge and experience and we are delighted that he has agreed to work with us to improve the governance and administration of our cricket.

"As a Board, we are determined to tackle the challenges we face and to exploit the opportunities for the betterment of SLC. Mr Lorgat is a seasoned administrator and I am excited that with his expertise, we can work towards building a strong and sustainable future for SLC."

SLC face debts of $US70 million, procured for the renovation of the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo and the construction of new stadia at Hambantota and Pallekele for the 2011 World Cup.
