Australia opener Chris Rogers will miss the first Test against West Indies after getting struck on the head during a session at the nets. The veteran batsman took a hit on his helmet but appeared steady to continue his session. A day later though, on Monday, he reportedly showed minor symptoms of concussion.
According to an ESPNcricinfo report, team doctor Peter Brukner found that Rogers suffered from minor dizziness. Eventually, the doctor, coach Darren Lehmann and captain Michael Clarke took the decision to not play him in the Test starting Wednesday at Roseau.
Australia are taking nothing to chance especially after Phillip Hughes' tragic death during a Sheffield Shield match last year in Sydney. Young Hughes was hit on the neck by a rising ball and never recovered. (Read)
"He won't be returning to training until he's fully recovered," Brukner was quoted as saying. "He'll have a return to play process once he's symptom-free of a few days, gradually increasing his activity before he gets back to it."
Shaun Marsh is expected to replace him and open the innings with David Warner.
