Bevan enjoys new job in India

Michael Bevan was a reliable anchor and such was his ability to see Australia through to a victory, that he was nick-named "the finisher" in his heyday.

The former Australian middle-order batsman is currently coaching the Chennai Superstars side in the Indian Cricket League.

So in days when cricket is getting more fast and furious, what exactly is the role of the finisher?

"I am not sure if there was ever a specific role for a finisher. I batted at Number 6. On many occasions my role diminished as there were so many good guys up top the order," said Michael Bevan Coach, Chennai Superstars.

Its certainly become more important than that now. While Bevan believes Mike Hussey does the job best today, our Men in Blue aren't too bad at it either

Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni have a long way to go to match the likes of Michael Bevan and Michael Hussey.

"I wanted to continue, but the selectors didn't want me to. And I didn't want to retire, the selectors dropped me. Then I played a lot of domestic cricket, and was looking to make it to the World Cup," he said.

The 37 year old is delighted to be back in India, a country against whom he has an ODI average of almost 50.

And while he enjoys his stint as a coach, here's a slight warning for his boys. The otherwise mild-mannered Bevo can lose his cool at times. How's this for an after-effect?

"Apparently one day I got out. I went in, I didn't bother to take my pads off and jumped into the shower!" he said.

Here is another interesting Michael Bevan fact. We know as a cricketer he was extremely reliable and trustworthy, and to put those qualities into good use, outside the cricket field as well, Bevan now runs a mortage company in Australia with former New Zealand wicketkeeper Adam Parore.

But for the moment, that will have to take a slight backseat as he enjoys his role as a coach.
