BAN vs PAK 1st Test, Day 2 LIVE
Welcome back for Pakistan's reply. The umpires are out in the middle. Bangladesh players are seen in a huddle near the ropes before taking their respective field positions. Azan Awais and Imam-ul-Haq are the two openers for Pakistan. Taskin Ahmed will start with the new ball. Let's go...
... SECOND INNINGS ...
The tail folded quickly as well - The second session barely got going before the curtains fell on the Bangladeshi innings. Right after the Lunch break, the set Mushfiqur Rahim was dismissed in the very first over for a gritty 71. Taskin Ahmed added valuable runs towards the end, and Bangladesh were eventually bundled out for a massive 413 runs. It was a fantastic first-innings batting effort from the hosts, setting up daunting scoreboard pressure for the visitors. Mohammad Abbas was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with a five-wicket haul, while Shaheen Afridi chipped in with three wickets. Now, the pressure is entirely on the Pakistan batters to respond.
Abbas with the fightback for Pakistan - Pakistan finally found some life on the morning of Day 2. Coming out with clear intent, the pacers hit the right lengths and tested the Bangladeshi batters. The veteran Mushfiqur Rahim remained rock solid, calmly bringing up his fifty, but his partners couldn't stick around. Mohammad Abbas was the absolute star of the morning session, bagging three crucial wickets to keep the scoring in check. By Lunch, Bangladesh were 380/7, with Pakistan finally clawing their way back into the contest.
The Tigers dominated Day 1 - It was a proper old-school Test match on Day 1 in Mirpur! Pakistan struck early with the new ball, leaving Bangladesh looking very shaky at 31/2. But then, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque completely flipped the script. They stitched together a monstrous 170-run partnership that frustrated the Pakistani bowlers all day long. Shanto hammered a brilliant 101, while Mominul fell heartbreakingly short of his century on 91. Bangladesh finished the opening day in total control at 301/4.
OUT! TAKEN! That is an outstanding catch by Saud Shakeel to finish things off. Much fuller, outside off, shaping away a shade. Taskin Ahmed bends low and looks to drive it, but gets a thick outside edge. Saud Shakeel, at second slips, flies to his right and takes a magnificent catch. Bangladesh end their innings at a mammoth 413 runs.
Nicely played by Nahid Rana! Much fuller, targeting the stumps, Nahid Rana covers his line and makes a solid block.
Past the edge! Slower one, just outside off, Nahid Rana throws a kitchen sink at it but gets beaten again.
Beaten! Hasan Ali bangs it short, on middle and leg, Nahid Rana looks to pull it but misses it completely.
Keeps it full again, outside off, Taskin Ahmed drives it through cover for another run.
In the air... safe! Hasan Ali goes full, outside off, Nahid Rana swings hard but gets a thick outside edge. The ball lobs in the air and lands safely at backward point. They cross.
Hasan Ali comes into the attack now. He bowls it on a length, on middle and leg, Taskin Ahmed helps it through backward square leg for a run.
Much fuller, just behind the yorker length, Nahid Rana jams it to cover. 7 runs from the over!
The batters are looking a bit more settled than the last few overs. Back of a length, outside off, Taskin Ahmed dabs it to the vacant cover region for a single.
Pitches it up, on off, Nahid Rana punches it to long on for a single.
Full, on the stumps, Taskin Ahmed punches from the backfoot, down the ground for a single.
FOUR! More runs for Bangladesh! Overpitched, outside off, not much movement on this delivery. Taskin Ahmed just opens the face of the bat, crouching a bit low and guides it to deep cover-point for a boundary.
On a good length, on the fifth stump, sways it away. Taskin Ahmed looks to push it through cover, but gets beaten on the outside edge.
Pitches it up, down the leg side. Nahid Rana, with no footwork, looks to defend, but misses and gets thumped on his pad.
Short, on middle, Nahid Rana misses his pull.
