India defeated Pakistan by 6 wickets on Sunday to take 8 points from three matches in the Asia Cup. Although India are assured of a spot in the final on Thursday against Pakistan, Bangladesh still have a chance to spoil MS Dhoni and his team's party.
The hosts in Mirpur have four points with a match against Sri Lanka left. If Tuesday's match ends in favour of Sri Lanka, it will leave both competing teams with four points each and therefore, Bangladesh will be out of the tournament. However, if Bangladesh stage a win, the standings will reflect both India and Bangladesh with equal points. (Click here for points table)
In such a situation, Bangladesh will make it to the final. Because going by the rules, the teams finishing on equal points, the right to play in the final match or series will be determined as follows:
# The team with the most number of wins
# If still equal, the team with the most number of wins over the other team(s) who are equal on points and have the same number of wins
# If still equal, the team with the highest number of bonus points
# If still equal, the team with the highest net run rate
Pakistan have already qualified for the final with two wins and a bonus point.
