c Abu Hider b Shakib Al Hasan
19.3 OUT! Just as I write they need to continue, Shahzad has thrown it away. One shot too many by the opener. He was going hard but having got a boundary on the last ball, this was not needed. Trying to be greedy. But credit to the fielder for taking an excellent catch. Any guesses who it is? Abu Hider, impressed with the ball earlier and now making no mistakes in the field. Seems as if he can't do anything wrong today. MS uses his feet and tries to clear the long on fence. He does connect well but does not get the desired elevation. Hider there, makes good ground to his left and takes it in motion with his hands stretched above his head. He throws the ball up in the air in delight as the Bangladesh players charge towards him. They are ecstatic as they have broken the stand which was just about starting to flourish. Shahzad walks back disappointed after getting a start. Afghanistan will need to rebuild again. 79/3

Ihsanullah | 8 | 4 | 2 | 0 | 200 |
c Mohammad Mithun b Abu Hider
1.4 OUT! Maiden ODI wicket for Abu Hider. That's smashed but a sharp catch is taken at cover-point. Hider gets lucky this time as he dishes out a short of a length delivery outside off. It was there to be cut and Ihsanullah does exactly that. Connects well too but the placement is poor as the ball flies at waist height to Mithun who takes a fine catch. The ball was not too far away from him but boy it was traveling! Bangladesh strike early. Can they make further inroads? 10/1

b Abu Hider
5.5 OUT! Bowled 'em! What a peach from the debutant. He must have dreamt about this many times and his hard work is paying off now. He dishes it on a length outside off, angling into Shah as he comes forward tentatively looking to drive at the ball. But it moves in after landing and goes through the gap between his bat and pad. The timber behind is disturbed. Hider is over the moon as he gets his second. Fantastic start for the Tigers. 28/2

Hashmatullah Shahidi | 58 | 92 | 3 | 0 | 63.04 |
c Liton Das b Rubel Hossain
37.1 OUT! EDGED AND GONE! The set batsman, Shahidi is walking back. Big blow to Afghanistan. Rubel Hossain strikes. He bowls this on a length and makes good use of the angle as he slants it away from the batsman. Shahidi tries to guide it but the ball skids through, takes the bottom edge and Liton Das takes a good low catch. The players appeal and the umpire obliges. Shahidi walks back in disgust and Bangladesh will now look to keep Afghanistan under 200. 150/6

Asghar Afghan C | 8 | 16 | 0 | 0 | 50 |
b Shakib Al Hasan
25.1 OUT! TIMBER! That has gone just through him! Shakib gets his second and once again in this tournament, the Afghan skipper goes for a low score. He uses his feet like he has been doing till now but is not quite to the pitch of the ball. It is the straighter one by the bowler and it also drifts into the batter. Afghan tries to force it through the off side, leaving a big gap between bat and pad. He misses and the ball sneaks through to hit the off pole. A calm celebration by Shakib and he has put Bangladesh on top. 101/4

Samiullah Shinwari | 18 | 31 | 1 | 0 | 58.06 |
b Shakib Al Hasan
33.2 OUT! Timber disturbed! Goes across the line and pays the price. The pressure was building as the boundaries have dried up and this maybe led to a wild slog. Shenwari sees the flight on that one and goes across to slog it towards the mid-wicket region, looking for a maximum. But he was completely done in by the flight by Shakib as the ball lands and skids straight through, under the bat to hit the wooden sticks behind. Shenwari walks back and once again a partnership has been cut short as it was starting to look good. 139/5

Mohammad Nabi | 10 | 24 | 0 | 0 | 41.66 |
lbw b Shakib Al Hasan
40.5 OUT! Pretty much plumb in front. Nabi had decided to go for the sweep before the ball was bowled. He goes down to sweep and may be seeing this the wily left-arm spinner keeps it a bit fuller in line of the stumps. Nabi swipes his bat in full force but misses the ball to get rapped in front. The Tigers go up in unison and the umpire raises his finger to signal the route towards the dressing room to Nabi. 160/7

Litton Das Wk | 6 | 14 | 0 | 0 | 42.85 |
lbw b Aftab Alam
4.5 OUT! Told you, that's plumb in front. This is extraordinary bowling by Aftab Alam. He kept on bowling those inswingers to trouble Liton and eventually gets him out. He dishes out a length ball around off and it jags back in sharply to beat Das' attempted flick shot (his bat-face was closed and he was falling across). He is rapped on the pads, they go up in a huge appeal and the umpire wastes no time in lifting his finger. Liton walks up to Shakib and has a long chat (under 15 seconds) and then takes the DRS. The replays roll in and they show three reds. Liton returns and takes the only review with him. 17/2

Nazmul Hossain | 7 | 13 | 0 | 0 | 53.84 |
c Aftab Alam b Mujeeb Ur Rahman
3.4 OUT! Another googly has outfoxed the batsman. Mujeeb drops it on a fuller length around middle and off, Nazmul runs down the track and tries to heave it over the leg side. But the ball turns away to gather the top edge. It balloons in the air and Aftab Alam makes no mistake at backward point. Mujeeb draws first blood as he normally does. Great bowling by him. 241 needed off 278 balls. 15/1

Shakib Al Hasan | 32 | 55 | 0 | 0 | 58.18 |
lbw b Rashid Khan
23.3 OUT! Got 'em! Rashid Khan again. You just can't keep champions out of the game for long. Rashid has got the first wicket on his birthday and that too the big one of the Bangladesh star all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan. The leggie lands this on the leg stump line, Shakib stays back footed as he looks to turn it to the leg side. But he is beaten as the ball straightens and hits him on the back leg. The Afghans go up in a loud appeal and the umpire obliges soon. No reviews left and Shakib has to go back to the hut. Replays show that it was out. Bangladesh in deep, deep trouble. 79/5

Mominul Haque | 9 | 17 | 0 | 0 | 52.94 |
c Mohammad Shahzad b Gulbadin Naib
12.2 OUT! Fantastic use of the technology from Afghanistan. The onfield decision is overturned. Naib fires this a bit short of a length angling in from around the wicket. Mominul has a swing at it but the angle takes it down the leg side and it seems that the ball has kissed a faint edge of the bat. Shahzad pouches it behind and the bowler is up in a vociferous appeal. Nothing from the umpire but Naib convinces his skipper to take the DRS. He is very sure. Right then, the Snicko detects some wood as the ball goes past the bat. The Afghans are delighted as Bangladesh lose their third and are deeper in trouble now. Mohammad Mithun is the next batsman in. 39/3
|
|||||
Mohammad Mithun | 2 | 7 | 0 | 0 | 28.57 |
b Gulbadin Naib
14.1 OUT! Dragged on and the sound of timber! Big wicket this as Mithun is a very solid batsman and Bangladesh needed him to be out there to chase this target down. But the right-hander has disappointed. Naib keeps this on a good length just around off and it's shaping in nicely into the batsman. The line and the length on this delivery are not the ideal ones for the cut shot to be executed but that's exactly the mistake that Mithun has committed. He tries to cut it but gets cramped as the ball lands and moves back in a bit. It takes the inside edge before crashing into the timber behind. Bangladesh struggling big time. 43/4
|
|||||
Mahmudullah | 27 | 54 | 2 | 0 | 50 |
b Rashid Khan
29.4 OUT! It was just a matter of time. Rashid Khan has done what Rashid Khan does best, take key wickets. This one is kept on a fuller length just around off. Mahmudullah comes forward to block it out but plays the wrong line. He actually plays inside the line of the ball as it beats the outside edge and crashes into the off pole. Mahmudullah cannot believe it as he looks behind to confirm but he has to as the Afghans are seen celebrating and Mr. Khan does the dab celebration which Mr. Pandya and Mr. Rahul are famous for. Big wicket this for Afghanistan and they will look to wrap this up soon now. Rashid Khan has now become the leading wicket-taker for Afghanistan in ODIs. 90/6

c Hashmatullah Shahidi b Rahmat Shah
33.1 OUT! Strikes straightaway. What a bowling change! Shah starts off with a bit shorter and wide of off delivery. Hasan goes for the extravagant cut. He has to reach for it a bit and cannot control his shot much. Ends up slicing the ball straight to the man at point where Hashmatullah Shahidi makes no mistake. Afghanistan inching closer. 100/7

Mashrafe Mortaza C | 11 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
c Aftab Alam b Mohammad Nabi
36.1 OUT! Great catch by Aftab Alam! A tossed up ball enticing the batsman to go after it. Mortaza skips down the track to attempt a big shot but mistimes it completely in the air towards deep mid-wicket. It's a skier and Alam does well to keep his eyes on the ball. He catches it before going down on the ground. Never easy to catch those coming down from a night sky. Well done. 110/8

run out (Rashid Khan)
41.5 OUT! Run out! Rashid can do nothing wrong on his birthday. Got runs, wickets and now a direct hit run out. Champion stuff! Flighted and full outside off, Mosaddek attempts for an inside out drive probably but fails to middle his shot probably. He ends up mistiming it towards mid off as Rashid gets across to stop the ball. The leggie initially fails to do so and seeing that the non-striker sets off for a run. He is sent back but before he can reach, Rashid has sprinted back, picked up the ball and scored a bull's eye at his end. Well short! You beauty, Rashid! 119/9

lbw b Mujeeb Ur Rahman
42.1 OUT! Mujeeb wraps it up. He comes back and takes one ball to finish this off. It is just too good for the No.11 batsman as he is totally bamboozled by this googly. Mujeeb lands this on a length just outside off. Rubel comes forward to block this out but the ball pitches and turns in to beat his bat. He is thudded on the pads, they appeal and the umpire agrees. Afghanistan have dominated this game as they have demolished the Tigers by 136 runs! 119/10
