Discarded batsman Callum Ferguson has said the new generation of cricketers emerging out of Australia will learn to play spin better in the future due to hybrid pitches prepared by Cricket Australia in Brisbane. Ferguson, who is in the Australia A team currently on tour in India, said the team's preparation on these pitches helped Australia combat the conditions in the recent first-class games against India A in Chennai. "I used the hybrid pitch for the first time before leaving for India and I really enjoyed it. It is a fantastic initiative by the board. And I'm certainly hoping that we'll be getting one for the South Australian Redbacks at the Adelaide Oval soon," Ferguson said to Times of India. In the recent past, Australia have struggled against spin in the sub-continent but Ferguson believes that hybrid pitches will make Australian batsmen more confident in these conditions.
The focus now shifts to the tri-series which also features South Africa A and Ferguson is confident that Australia A will put in a good show. "I think we've acclimatized pretty well over the last few weeks. Most of our players are from the team that won the four-day game last week and we take a lot of confidence from that victory."
