Playing at home gives a team added advantages. For West Indies, this may not be true. The Caribbeans' win-loss ratio has now plummeted to 0.66 in home Tests. This after West Indies were demolished by 277 runs by Australia for their second successive defeat. (Match report | Scorecard)
Not only did the hosts in Kingston not put up a fight but they rolled right over and were bowled out for 114 to concede the two-match series to the world No. 2 side, Australia.
Sunday's defeat was West Indies' 17th defeat of the 41 played at home in the last 10 years. This makes their record the worst of all Test playing nations -- Bangladesh and Zimbabwe not included.
Their shocking 114 runs in the final innings of the match was their lowest completed innings total against Australia at Kingston - surpassing 191 (May, 2008). The shabby batting effort was further highlighted by the fact that three of the top six batsmen - Kraig Brathwaite, Rajendra Chandrika and Jermaine Blackwood -- fell without scoring a single run. This is the ninth time it has happened for West Indies.
After Australia had posted 399 batting first, West Indies had managed to score 220 in their first innings. Any hopes of salvaging a draw evaporated as Mitchell Starc's three for 34 in the final innings silenced the sparse turnout at Sabina Park.
More statistics from the fourth day's play:
