Slowly over time Ajinkya Rahane is becoming Mr. Consistent of Indian cricket. If there is a collapse in the top order of the batting line-up, Indian cricket fans rest assured that there is a certain Rahane who comes down at No.5, who can steady the ship for the team.
That is how the Mumbaikar has developed his reputation and is still at it.
On a bright, sunny Sunday in Indore the 28-year-old added another feather in his cap by scoring his eighth century on Day 2 of the third and final Test against New Zealand at the Holkar Stadium.
And the right-hander crossed another landmark in his career on Saturday when he went past the 2000-run mark in Test cricket, putting himself in a different league altogether.
New Zealand pacer Trent Boult was bowling to Rahane, who paddled a short ball towards fine leg to take a run to bring up his hundred. He lifted his arms as he ran the single and then raised his bat to acknowledge the cheers from the Indore crowd.
Rahane has been in form. Though he got mediocre scores of 18 and 40 in the first Test at Kanpur, he really came into his own at the iconic Eden Gardens when he scored 77 in the first innings at Kolkata.
And he continues his form in the maiden Test match at Indore as India continue to dominate New Zealand.

Rahane was eventually dismissed for a score of 188 by Trent Boult, as India crossed the 500-run mark to take command of the 3rd Test vs New Zealand.
