3rd Test, Sri Lanka vs Pakistan: Statistical highlights from Day 3

Sri Lanka ended Day 3 of the third Test against Pakistan in Pallekele as the side with the bragging rights. It was the stoic performance of Thisara Perera with the ball and then with the bat that helped the hosts' cause.

# Thilan Samaraweera (73) has posted his fourth fifty against Pakistan - his 29th in Tests.

# For the first time against a Test nation, Samaraweera has completed 1,000 runs - 1035 at an average of 51.75, including three centuries and four fifties, in 13 Tests against Pakistan.

# Samaraweera is the sixth Sri Lankan to manage 1,000 runs or more against Pakistan in Tests, joining Kumar Sangakkara (2246), Sanath Jayasuriya (1490), Aravinda de Silva (1475), Mahela Jayawardene (1306) and Arjuna Ranatunga (1210).

# During his aforesaid innings, Samaraweera has completed his 3,000 runs in Sri Lanka in Tests - 3013 at an average of 55.79, including eight centuries and 17 fifties, in 43 matches.

# Samaraweera became the fifth Sri Lankan to manage 3,000 runs or more in Tests in Sri Lanka, joining Jayawardene (6735), Sangakkara (5602), Jayasuriya (4114) and Aravinda de Silva (3290).

# Since posting 76 not out against Pakistan at Sharjah in November 2011, Tharanga Paranavitana has posted his first fifty in nine innings.

# Paranavitana's 11th fifty in Tests is his fifth against Pakistan.

# Paranavitana has completed his 1,000 runs in Tests in Sri Lanka - 1021 (ave.36.46) in 17 Tests, including two centuries and five fifties.

# Paranavitana and Samaraweera put on 143 for the fourth wicket - Sri Lanka's fifth highest against Pakistan in Tests.

# The aforesaid partnership is Sri Lanka's highest for the fourth wicket in Tests at Pallekele - the second highest overall at this venue, next only to 258 between Shaun Marsh and Michael Hussey for Australia against Sri Lanka in September 2011.

# Thisara Perera (4/63 + 75) has claimed four wickets in an innings and posted a fifty in the same match for the first time.

# Perera's 75 is his maiden Test fifty, bettering the 30 against South Africa at Cape Town in January 2012.

# Perera's aforesaid innings is the fifth highest by number eight Sri Lankan batsman in Tests - the two centurions at this position being Samaraweera - 103 not out against India at Colombo, SSC in August 2001 and  by Chaminda Vaas - 100 not out against Bangladesh at Colombo, SSC in June 2007.

# Perera's 75 is the highest by number eight Sri Lankan batsman against Pakistan in Tests, eclipsing Ruwan Kalpage's 62 at Kandy in August 1994.

# Kulasekara (33) has registered his third highest innings in Tests - the highest two being 64 against England at Lord's in May 2006 and 38 against Pakistan at Galle in July 2009.

# Junaid Khan (5/70) has produced his third five-wicket haul.  All his five-wicket hauls are against Sri Lanka.

# Junaid's figures of 5 for 70 are his second best in Tests, next only to the 5 for 38 at Abu Dhabi in October 2011.

# The 84-run stand for the eighth wicket is Sri Lanka's highest against Pakistan in Tests
