South Africa shunned Pakistan batsmen in the second innings to claim a 4-wicket win and take an unbeatable 2-0 lead. This despite some strong performances from the visitors in this Test too. A look at the statistical highlights.

# Graeme Smith has celebrated his 100th Test as South African captain with an excellent win, taking an unassailable 2-0 series lead.

# Smith, with his 49th win, has set a captaincy record in Tests, surpassing Ricky Ponting's feat of 48 wins.  Smith enjoys 48.51 success percentage (26 losses and 26 drawn games out of 101 contested).

# South Africa have won 10, lost three and drawn seven out of 20 contested against Pakistan - winning % 50.00.

# South Africa have won six successive Test series - 2-1 vs Sri Lanka in 2011-12; 1-0 vs New Zealand in 2011-12; 2-0 vs England in 2012; 1-0 vs Australia in 2012-13; 2-0 vs New Zealand in 2012-13 and 2-0 vs Pakistan in 2012-13.

# South Africa have not lost a Test series during the last four years - their last series defeat was to Australia 1-2 in 2008-09.

# South Africa have won four successive Tests at Newlands, Cape Town - one each against Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Pakistan.

# South Africa have won 21 and lost 19 out of 50 played at Newlands, Cape Town (Drawn 10) - winning % 42.00.

# South Africa have won five successive Tests since November 2012 - by 309 runs against Australia at Perth; by an innings and 27 runs against New Zealand at Cape Town; by an innings and 193 runs against New Zealand at Port Elizabeth; by 211 runs against Pakistan at Johannesburg and by four wickets against Pakistan at Cape Town.

# Pakistan (169) have recorded their second lowest total at Cape Town - their lowest being 157 in January 2007.

# Vernon Philander (4/40) took his tally of wickets in South Africa to exactly 50 at an average of 13.10 in seven Tests.

# Philander's match-aggregate of 9 for 99 is his best against Pakistan in Tests.  In just three Tests this year, Philander has claimed 20 wickets at 12.90 runs apiece.

# In only four Tests at Cape Town, Philander has captured 30 wickets at an averge of 12.00 - his figures of 9 for 99 against Pakistan are his best in a Test match at this venue.

# Azhar Ali's fourth fifty (65 off 193 balls) against South Africa is his 14th in Tests.

# In the third match innings, Azhar has registered five successive innings of fifty-plus - his sequence of scores being 53 vs West Indies; 68 & 157 vs England; 136  vs Sri Lanka and 65 vs South Africa.  He is averaging 72.85 in third match innings - 510 runs in seven innings, including two hundreds and three fifties.

# Dale Steyn has been in splendid form this year, capturing 28 wickets in only four Tests at an average of 10.82 - the most by any bowler in 2013.

# Steyn has extended his record for the highest wicket-aggregate at Newlands, Cape Town - his tally being 57 at an average of 21.14 in eleven Tests.

# Robin Peterson (3/73) has produced his best bowling figures against Pakistan in Tests.

# Peterson has been adjudged the Man of the Match for the first time in  Tests for posting 85 (84 + 1 not out) and claiming five wickkets in the Test.

# Hashim Amla (58) has registered his 26th fifty in Tests - his seventh against Pakistan.

# Amla is averaging 61.31 in South African wins - 3127 runs, including ten hundreds and twelve fifties.

# Saeed Ajmal (10/147- 6/96 + 4/51) has claimed ten wickets or more in a Test match three times - his first two instances being 11 for 111 against the West Indies at Providence in May 2011 and 10 for 97 against England at Dubai (DSC) in January 2012.  Against West Indies and South Africa, he finished on the losing side.

# Before Saeed Ajmal's two instances of ten wickets in a losing cause, Wasim Akram was the last Pakistani bowler to finish on the losing side - 11 for 110 against the West Indies at St.John's in May 2000.  Akram, in fact, holds a dubious distinction of finishing three times on the losing side despite ten wickets in a Test match - once each against the West Indies, Australia and New Zealand.

# Ajmal has joined Waqar Younis (Port Elizabeth in March, 1998) and Venkatesh Prasad (Durban in December, 1996) as the only bowlers to have finished on a losing side in a Test match against South Africa in South Africa.
