Chicago:
Italy will host the 2009 world boxing championships after winning the bid against South Korea in Chicago.
"The decision for hosting the world championships was made by the executive committee of the international boxing association AIBA on Monday," said AIBA Vice President Chang Jian Ping.
The city of Milan representing Italy contributed 1.3 million euros to AIBA to earn the right to host the championships.
Italy and South Korea were the only two countries in contention to host the 2009 championships.
Cameroon, Trinidad and Tobago and Uzbekistan had expressed their interest but were not part of the final vote, as they did not submit their formal bids.
