Bangalore:
The four-day Senior National Athletics Meet in Bangalore left the chinks in the athletics track totally exposed.
The all-weather synthetic track of Kanteerava stadium, laid during the 1996 National Games is well past its shelf life.
Over 500 athletes who took part in the athletics meet had a tough time running on the track, and some even got injured.
"This track is almost gone. I think we have to relay it as early as possible," said Anju Bobby George, World Number 6, Long Jump.
Poor show
Bangalore provides excellent climatic conditions for athletes to train and participate in tournaments right around the year.
The city is also bidding for the 2009 Asian Track and Field Championship.
Clearly, it's high time that the state's sports ministry here did something to improve the infrastructure.
