Legendary Haile Gebrselassie to Flag Off Bengaluru Marathon
Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie has won two Olympic gold medals, seven world outdoor championship medals, and set dozens of world records, including the marathon best of 2:03:59 in Berlin in 2008.

Haile Gebrselassie, one of the greatest long distance runners in the world, will flag off the Bengaluru Marathon on October 19 at the Kanteerava Stadium here.
"I have heard a lot about the ever-growing passion for running in India and now I am looking forward to experiencing this in person at the Bangalore Marathon," Gebrselassie was quoted as saying in a statement.
The Ethiopian has won two Olympic gold medals, seven world outdoor championship medals, and set dozens of world records, including the marathon best of 2:03:59 in Berlin in 2008.
The legend will also meet city runners at the Bengaluru Marathon Expo, Kanteerava Stadium on October 18. Haile is also known for his business ventures. He founded Haile and Alem International PLC company in Ethiopia, which has built three hotels, two primary schools among other things.
The 41-year-old athlete also has plans to build an SUV assembly plant. Most recently, his company has begun construction of a housing and condominium complex.
