Bengal hurdler creates national record

Anil Soren ran the 110 m hurdles in a record 14.12 seconds, shaving 0.26 seconds off an eight year old record.

Anil Soren of West Bengal created a new national record in 110m hurdles on the second day of the three-day 20th National Inter-Zone Athletics Championships here on Monday.

The 17-year old achieved the feat in the boys under-18 section of 110m hurdles by clocking 14.12s, shattering the previous best of 14.38s established by Kerala's Akhil Krishanan at Vijayawada Junior National in 2000.

Soren was followed by Saba Bhagat of Maharashtra (West Zone), who recorded 14.17 secs, and Gurinder Singh of Punjab (North Zone) recording 14.34 secs respectively for the second and third place.
