Korean trainer nails it
A South Korean track cycling trainer has taken the unusual step of painting his nails to bring his riders luck. "Nail art is something to be shunned by South Korean men, but I was successful when I had it on my thumbnails just for luck before leading the youth team at an Asian international event in May," Chung Jeong-Seok, 33, told AFP. Chung has a decorative South Korean flag on one thumb and the Asian Games emblem on the other. South Korea have won six medals on the track including gold in the men's team sprint.
Parting shot
The Philippines suffered a damaging defeat in basketball on Saturday but they at least had the shot of the game. From deep in his own half, point guard LA Tenorio threw a spectacular three-pointer in the dying seconds of the 97-95 loss to South Korea. The result left the Philippines campaign tottering but significantly boosted South Korea's hopes of reaching the semi-finals. (Toffee Alert for South Korea in Japan Blockbuster)
Hajj assurance
Indonesia's chef de mission Suwarno has given assurances his delegation is in safe hands as he leaves mid-Games for a hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. Suwarno said he expected "nothing big" to befall Indonesia's 186 athletes, after leaving his deputy Ade Lukman in charge. Indonesia is hosting the next Games in 2018 and until Saturday's women's doubles badminton gold, they had collected three silvers and six bronzes. "We still have BMX, badminton and beach volleyball. I wish them the best of luck," Suwarno said, according to the Jakarta Globe.
