Top seed Roberta Vinci was ousted from the $220,000 WTA Monterrey Open on Wednesday, with Russian Nina Bratchikova upsetting the Italian 7-5, 7-5 to reach the quarter-finals.
Bratchikova needed only 81 minutes to advance to a last-eight berth against the winner of a Thursday match between Hungarian sixth seed Greta Arn and Croatian qualifier Maria Abramovic.
Romanian Alexandra Cadantu eliminated Spain's Silvia Soler-Espinosa 7-6 (8/6), 6-3 in another second-round match to book a date against the winner of a later match between Russian Valeria Savinykh and Spanish eighth seed Lourdes Dominguez Lino.
