Samantha Stosur of Australia beat Li Na of China 6-2, 6-4 on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Rogers Cup.
Li is seeded sixth and was playing her first match of the week. She had a walkover in the first round when an injured Shuai Peng of China withdrew. Li looked rusty, sending long returns on another blustery day at Rexall Centre.
The match was held during a power outage at the venue. The main scoreboard remained black, while the corner scoreboard periodically worked, powered by a backup generator.
