Sabine Lisicki advanced to her first Wimbledon final a couple of hours after Marion Bartoli reached her second.
She has become the first German woman since 1999 to reach a Grand Slam final when she defeated Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4, 2-6, 9-7. Her previous best Grand Slam run ended in a Wimbledon semi-final defeat to Maria Sharapova in 2011 where she entered the tournament as a wildcard. Interestingly, she became only the second woman in Wimbledon history to make it to the semifinals while entering the tournament as a wildcard. With her win over Radwanska, she is now tipped to be a title favourite.
The 23rd seed will be looking to become Germany's first champion at a major since Steffi Graf beat Martina Hingis to claim the 1999 French Open. She had earlier ended five-time champion Serena Williams' career-best 34-match winning streak in the fourth round on Monday.
The world number 24 turned professional in 2006 and her breakthrough came in 2009 when she reached the quarter-finals of the Wimbledon Championships. Thereafter she won her first WTA title, the Family Circle Cup, beating Caroline Wozniacki in the final.
She was born in Troisdorf, Germany on September 22 in 1989 and currently she resides in Bradenton, USA. The 23-year-old is known for her power hitting and her aggressive game. It was her power hitting that earned her the nickname "Boom Boom".
Her path to Saturday's final is as follows:
1st round: beat Francesca Schiavone (Italy) 6-1, 6-2
2nd round: beat Elena Vesnina (Russia) 6-3, 6-1
3rd round: beat 14th seed Samantha Stosur (Australia) 4-6, 6-2, 6-1
4th round: beat top seed Serena Williams (USA) 6-2, 1-6, 6-4
Quarter-finals: beat Kaia Kanepi (Estonia) 6-3, 6-3
Semi-finals: beat 4th seed Agnieszka Radwanska (Poland) 6-4, 2-6, 9-7.
