Australia have dumped controversial Nick Kyrgios for their Davis Cup semi-final clash against Great Britain in Glasgow later this month, organisers announced on Tuesday.
Captain Wally Masur insisted it was a decision taken in agreement with the player without mentioning the recent incidents in which Kyrgios has been embroiled. (Also read: Ten reasons why US Open isn't fun without Nick Kyrgios)
The 20-year-old made infamous comments to rival Stan Wawrinka about his girlfriend being unfaithful during a match last month in Montreal and was fined $30,000 by the ATP.
Kyrgios, who lost in four sets to Murray in the first round of the US Open last week, also declared: "I don't want to be here" during his shock first-day singles loss to Kazakhstan's Aleksandr Nedovyesov in Darwin in July.
Masur has included Bernard Tomic, the country's top-ranked player with a 14-2 Davis Cup record, with veteran Lleyton Hewitt and his doubles partner Sam Groth, who helped in a 3-2 comeback win over the Kazakhs, and teenager Thanasi Kokkinakis.
Australia are looking to reach their first Davis Cup final since winning the trophy for a 28th time in 2003, with the winners to face either Argentina or Belgium in the November 27-29 final.
