The short-ball plan has worked but maybe they should have tried it a lot sooner. Milind bangs this into the pitch around middle, gets some steep bounce. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi looks to take it on with the pull shot but the ball just gets a bit big on him. It takes the top edge and flies high in the air towards deep square leg, where Tanay Thyagarajan (Sub fielder) runs to his right, keeps his eyes on the ball and takes a fine sliding catch. 52.2 OUT! DRAGGED ON! That's heartbreak for the youngster as he falls 15 short of a well-deserved ton. Chama Milind lands this short of a length and just on off. Shikhar Mohan tries to roll his wrists and pull it away but closes the bat face a bit early as the ball holds up on the surface. He gets a bottom edge as the ball crashes back onto the stumps. Mohan looks up to the skies in disappointment, but has to walk back now. East Zone are 241/4 now.  241/4

31 OUT! CAUGHT! That's an unnecessary shot, and slowly but surely, South Zone are getting back into this contest. This is floated up around middle and leg. Sudip Gharami dances down the track, doesn't get to the pitch of the ball completely and the bat turns in his hand as he tries to loft it away. The ball gets skewed to wide mid on, where Chama Milind takes a simple catch. East Zone are now 147/3.  147/3

162.2 OUT! TAKEN! A mammoth innings from Ishan Kishan comes to an end. Floated up, on a fuller length around leg stump, tempting the batter out of his crease. Kishan charges down to launch it over the straight boundary, but he fails to get underneath it cleanly. The ball skies off the toe of the bat toward long on, where Ravichandran Smaran runs to his right near the rope and pouches it safely. Ishan Kishan falls for 270.  708/9

South Zone gets the wicket after a very, very long time and it's Tripurana Vijay who breaks the 230-run stand, which is also the highest partnership in this edition of Duleep Trophy. Short of a length, around off and middle. Kumar Kushagra goes deep into the crease, opens his stance and looks to pull it away, but gets the top edge before it loops toward deep fine leg. Chama Milind is the man who charges toward the skier from the boundary line and makes no mistake to spill that one away.  471/5

134.1 OUT! LBW! A bit of an excited appeal for LBW, but it is turned down. Seemed to be pitching just outside leg, but Tilak Varma does review it. Shaik Rasheed flights this one up around leg stump, getting it to turn back in. Anukul Roy gets pegged back, looking to work it away but is beaten on the inside edge and gets hit on the pads. The third umpire has a look at it. Nothing on UltraEdge, but Ball Tracking comes up with three reds, and Rasheed is excited with it. South Zone do get a wicket here. Excellent review!  626/6

157.4 OUT! TAKEN AT LONG ON! Flighted up, full and on off, Md Kounain Qureshi runs out of patience and looks to go big. He lofts it towards long on but doesn't connect well. The ball carries on the deep where Mohammed Siraj dives forward and takes a good catch. He doesn't celebrate much, though. The umpire checks for a clean catch and replays show that it was just fine. Abhijit Sarkar is the new batter in.  698/8

Mohammad Shami leans onto it and looks to push it, but the ball goes through his bat and his pad and rattles the top of off. Shreyas Gopal breaks the frustrating partnership. 163 OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Mukesh Kumar falls for a duck after a couple of reprieves. That brings an end to East Zone's colossal innings at 708. Tossed it up full and right in line with off stump. Mukesh leans on to go over the top with a powerful straight drive, but only drills it straight back down the deck. Vijay reacts in a flash. He leaps on and takes a one-handed grab with his right hand to wrap up the innings.  708/10

5.2 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Excellent review from South Zone. Mukesh Kumar draws first blood. He serves this a bit fuller, angling down the leg side. Ricky Bhui looks to glance it away, and the ball passes close to the bat before Kumar Kushagra grabs it behind the stumps, moving sharply to his left. There is a big appeal for caught behind, but it is turned down. However, Ishan Kishan takes the review after Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who is standing at slip, convinces him. The replay shows that the ball is close to the bat and the thigh as well, but UltraEdge shows a spike when the ball passes the bat. Massive celebration among the East Zone players, with Vaibhav delighted. Bhui is stangled down the leg side, and the on-field call is changed to Out. 18.4 OUT! CAUGHT! Brainfade moment for Jagadeesan and he is absolutely gutted with himself. This is the maiden first-class wicket for Shikhar Mohan! A special moment for the 21-year-old left-arm spinner. He pushes this one wide outside off, bowling on a flatter, lower trajectory. Narayan Jagadeesan could easily have left it alone, but instead chases the wide delivery, throwing his bat at it, only for it to come out as a half-hearted swing as he tries to access the off side. The ball pops up gently toward backward point, where Abhimanyu Easwaran completes a simple reverse-cup catch. The 60-run stand is broken, and South Zone slip to 70/2, still trailing by 638.  70/2

35.3 OUT! STRAIGHT TO THE FIELDER! Mukesh Kumar gets a big wicket on his return to the attack and both the set batters are gone in quick succession. This full again, and on middle and leg. Devdutt Padikkal instinctively tries to play the pick-up shot, but maybe he is not aware that there is a fielder in the deep. It flies straight towards deep square leg, where Denish Das (Sub fielder) moves forward and takes a good low catch to his front. Padikkal has his hands on his head but has to walk back. There was a hundred for the taking here for him.  129/4

33.5 OUT! LBW! Trapped in front and Shami breaks the 56-run partnership. First signs of reverse as the ball tails into the batter, on a fullish length, in front of the stumps. Shaik Rasheed plays all over the wrong line, trying to flick but gets beaten on the inside edge. The ball thuds hard on the front pad. A massive, massive appeal goes around for LBW and the umpire takes a good look at it before raising his finger. Shaik Rasheed does not review it and trudges off to the pavilion. Ball Tracking later shows that the ball would have crashed into the leg stump and Rasheed sensed it too. 107.3 OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Tilak Varma falls on 99. South Zone have been bundled out for 336 runs. Md Kounain Qureshi bowls this one full outside off, tempting Tilak Varma into an aggressive lofted stroke straight back down the ground. Varma gets a bit low to power it through the line, but slight deception in flight keeps him from getting the meat of the willow on it. The ball skews high off the toe-end directly back toward Qureshi, who leaps and takes a good catch. East Zone’s players gather around to applaud Tilak as he walks off after a superb knock.  336/10

53.4 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Another superb review from East Zone. Mohammad Shami serves this a bit fuller and on off, angles in but gets it to straighten again. Ravichandran Smaran goes for the big drive but looks like he misses as the ball goes just past the outside edge. Kumar Kushagra grabs it behind the stumps and appeals confidently, but it is not given. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi cannot give any input as he is standing at mid off, but goes for the review after a chat with his keeper. UltraEdge shows a small pike when the ball is next to the bat and the East Zone players are jubilant. The on-field call i s changed to Out, but Smaran is dumbstruck out there. 79.2 OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Md Kounain Qureshi finally gets a much-deserved wicket, just before Stumps. He bowls this slower through the air, full and on off, lands on the rough and turns in a bit. Shreyas Gopal looks to push it away from his body but the ball catches the inside half of the bat. It lobs up back to the bowler, where Qureshi takes a dolly. Tilak Varma has his hands on his head at the other end. South Zone are 240/6, still trailing by 468 runs.  240/6

98.3 OUT! TAKEN! That's a sharp catch by Sudip Gharami. Tossed up, full on middle, the ball grips and bites back sharply off the surface. Chama Milind steps out looking to drive through the line, but the sharp turn produces a thick inside edge. Sudip Gharami, at short leg, shows his reflexes and takes a sharp low catch. East Zone breathe easy at last as the gritty 78-run stand is broken.  318/7

102 OUT! VIJAY RUN OUT! A total mix-up, and Tripurana Vijay is a goner. Short and wide, Tilak Varma slaps it to backward point. A mix-up in the middle as the batters decide to take a single. Abhijit Sarkar is quick to throw the ball towards the keeper, Kumar Kushagra, who whips the bails off in a flash. Tripurana Vijay was nowhere in the frame. He has to walk back.  322/8

4.4 OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Mohammed Siraj gets his first wicket in this final. He lands this on a good length and in the channel outside off, gets it to straighten. Abhimanyu Easwaran gets a bit squared up and tries to push it away from his body. It takes the outside edge and flies towards first slip, where Devdutt Padikkal takes a sharp, low catch just above the ground, with the ball dying on him. A rare failure for Easwaran. 37.1 OUT! LBW! Shaik Rasheed strikes on his very first delivery. Maybe he should have come on a bit earlier. He floats it up, full and around middle, skids through a bit and turns in as well. Shikhar Mohan gets stuck in his crease and tries to clip it across but plays down the wrong line, getting hit on the front pad. There is a big shout for LBW, and the finger goes up. Mohan takes a review here, but Ball Tracking comes up with three reds, with the ball hitting the leg stump. East Zone are 154/4, leading by 526 runs.  154/4

33.3 OUT! CAUGHT! Ishan Kishan was throwing his hands at everything for the past few overs, and he's finally fallen while looking to go big. MD Nidheesh bowls this on a length, slanting it into the batter. Kishan backs away a bit and steps out, going for the big heave across the line but loses his shape. Kishan ends up skewing it high towards gully, where Devdutt Padikkal settles under it and takes a good catch. Kishan walks back having scored a total of 350 runs in the game, and Nidheesh gets his first wicket of the contest.  139/3

59.3 OUT! EDGED AND GONE! The change of angle works out for Chama Milind. He goes fuller and well outside off, angling further away. Kumar Kushagra goes chasing after it and throws his bat at it. He has no control on the shot and only manages to get a thin outisde edge behind, where Narayan Jagadeesan makes no mistake. That is the end of the 78-run stand. East Zone are 238/6, leading by 610 runs.  238/6

39.4 OUT! GHARAMI IS RUN OUT! He has had a final to forget and misses out again. Shaik Rasheed bowls a full toss, on off, Sudip Gharami drills it towards mid off and sets off for the run without looking at his partner. Kumar Kushagra is not interested and sends his partner back. Gharami slips while turning back, as Kodimela Himateja (Sub) throws it to the keeper's end. Narayan Jagadeesan has to move to his right to collect it and breaks the stumps, with Gharami putting in a desperate dive. The third umpire is called upon. He looks at different angles, in the front-on angle. it show sthat the bails are dislodged when the bat is on the crease and no part of it is inside. He presses the red button. 98.4 OUT! CAUGHT! MD Nidheesh strikes right away on his return to the attack. He hits the deck hard and in the channel outside off, angles it in but straightens off the deck.
