Seventh seeds Sania Mirza and Barbora Strycova came out with a comprehensive 6-4, 7-5 victory to defeat American-Japanese pair of Nicole Gibbs and Nao Hibino and enter the women's doubles quarter-finals of the US Open in New York on Monday.
Though Nicole and Nao broke the Indo-Czech pair twice in the first set, Sania and Barbora fought back to clinch one more breakpoint to clinch the set in 32 minutes.
Though Sania and Barbora served up two doubles faults, they countered it by winning 30 of the total 55 points played in the first set.
The second set was even more toughly contested. But the Indo-Czech duo were a tad bit better to win two breakpoint chances, one more than their opponents.
The seventh seeds also won 41 of the 73 points played in the set.
Interestingly, there were no net points won during the entire course of the match which lasted an hour and 17 minutes.
In the last eight contest, Sania and Barbora will take on French top seeds Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic for a place in the semis.
