Buenos Aires:
Former world number 10 Martin Jaite was named as Argentina's new Davis Cup captain on Friday on a two-year contract following the resignation of Tito Vazquez, the country's tennis federation (AAT) announced.
"I am very happy. It has been my dream since I stopped playing and I am honoured by this appointment," said the 47-year-old Jaite, who will be assisted by Mariano Zabaleta, another former player.
Jaite, a former coach of David Nalbandian and Gastion Gaudio, won 12 singles titles in his playing career and reached a career-high 10 in the world.
Vazquez stepped down after Argentina's defeat to Spain in this year's Davis Cup final two weeks ago.
