Sydney:
Australia have chosen a grass surface at Royal Sydney Golf Club for its Davis Cup World Group playoff against Switzerland in September.
Tennis Australia said in a statement on Saturday that the Sept. 16-18 match would be the first major tennis event at Royal Sydney since a Fed Cup match in 2001 won 4-1 by Australia, also over Switzerland.
Davis Cup captain Pat Rafter said "our priority is to get back in the World Group and we are doing everything we can to achieve this."
Australia beat China 3-1 - the final match was not played - in the second round in April. Switzerland, with Roger Federer playing doubles and singles, defeated Portugal 5-0.
The Australia-Switzerland winner will advance to the topflight World Group next year.
