South Africa have defeated Zimbabwe by 5 wickets in their final Super 8 match. This means they are confirmed as toppers in Group 1, leaving the India vs West Indies match as a direct shootout for second spot in the group. The winner of today's clash will take on England in the semi-final.

It will be interesting to see whether India decide to make any changes after their big win over Zimbabwe. Rinku Singh is back and available for selection after returning from his father's cremation, but will he get a spot? We will find out shortly.

South Africa are on the front foot against Zimbabwe in their final Super 8 match. SA need 28 runs in the final 6 overs, and have 5 wickets in hand, with Tristan Stubbs and George Linde at the crease.2

We are just about half an hour away from toss time at the Eden Garens in Kolkata. It will be interesting to see what kind of a pitch is served up for the two teams. "A typical Eden pitch full of runs, but something in it for the bowlers too," promised pitch curator Sujan Mukherjee ahead of the match.

West Indies are winless against India at Eden Gardens in any international since 1983, drawing two and losing nine matches including four T20Is. The two time-champions have not made it to the semi-finals of an ICC event since they won the T20 World Cup in 2016 in India.

Former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik feels that the Suryakumar Yadav-led side must dismiss West Indies batter Shimron Hetmyer early in their virtual T20 World Cup quarter-final in Kolkata. He also believes that if India bat first, they need to exceed the par score, as the West Indies have a deep batting line-up.

India and West Indies have met 30 times in T20Is, with the former winning 19 of those encounters. The Windies have won just 10 matches, while one game ended in a no result. However, the West Indies lead India 3-1 in T20 World Cup meetings.

Sanjay Bangar has urged the Indian team management to stick with the left-right opening combination in Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson for the clash against the West Indies.

"With a right-hander at the top, India are depriving the opposition of the opportunity to use off-spin as much. It's not necessarily that off-spinners are causing a lot of problems to left-handers. It's just that the batters are trying to force the issue against them and, in that process, getting out," Bangar told Jio Hotstar.

"This is a good mix because if you have three right-handers in the top seven, you can maintain the right-left combination and deprive the opposition of using four overs of off-spin," he added.

Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad labelled the national team's exit for the T20 World Cup as "disappointing", adding that the players have failed to deliver once again. 

"You get one chance in two years' time to leave an imprint of your country's cricket excellence and you fail again. It is very disappointing to see all this," former captain and batting great Javed Miandad said on Sunday.

South Africa's Test captain Temba Bavuma has backed India's bowlers to get the job done against the West Indies and take the Suryakumar Yadav-led side into the top four.

"It is exciting. I think the West Indies is a team that can match any power from a batting point of view. So, you know, I cannot call much there. Probably in the bowling, where I would say there is a difference between the two bowling attacks, where India are in favour, it is in Kolkata. Look, when we played there, the test match, I mean, it spun quite a lot," said Bavuma.

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar has advised mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy to bowl fuller lengths and target the stumps against the West Indies.

"Against Zimbabwe, a majority of his deliveries were back of a length, and many of the boundaries came from that area. If he pushes the ball a little fuller and attacks the stumps, that's where Varun is most dangerous. That has been one of Varun Chakaravarthy's strengths; if the batsman misses, he is either trapped leg before wicket or bowled," Bangar told Jio Hotstar.

India and West Indies are tied at two points each, and the winner of this game will enter the semi-finals, while the loser will be knocked out. If the match is abandoned, both sides will share points. In that scenario, India and West Indies will finish with three points each, but the latter will advance by virtue of a better Net Run Rate.

Contorary to Amir's prediction, Ignored Pakistan cricket team batter Ahmed Shehzad said that he was absolutely confident that India will beat West Indies to reach the T20 World Cup semifinal. He disagreed with him and even decided to raise the stakes of his prediction.

"If India win the match, we will take the title of 'astrologer' from Amir. And if India fail to reach the semifinals, I will quit this show," Shehzad said on the show 'Haarna Mana Hai'.

Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has doubled down on his prediction, saying that India will not qualify for the semi-finals.

"Dekho, Pakistan kare na kare, India nahin (It doesn't matter whether Pakistan qualifies or not, India will not)," said Amir.

Manoj Tiwary joked that Indian players would not get Indian Premier League contracts if they failed to defeat the West Indies. "India have scored 256 in their last match, so from that position, they should go through. There is no pressure at all. The expectation would be to score over 200 and defeat the West Indies easily. If they can't defeat the West Indies, no one will get IPL contracts," he said during a discussion on Cricbuzz.

The West Indies batters are world-famous for their insane hitting ability. That is something that separates the Windies from the rest. Indian bowlers will have to come well prepared and execute their plans properly to keep the West Indies batters in check.

Ahead of his side's must-win T20 World Cup Super Eight clash against India in Kolkata, West Indies head coach Daren Sammy warned that "history could repeat itself". Notably, Sammy-led West Indies had defeated India by 7 wickets in the T20 World Cup 2016 semi-final in Mumbai.

"Well, there is a saying that history could repeat itself, although it was a different venue. But it is two different teams, two teams trying to move on in the tournament. You're absolutely right," said Sammy ahead of the game.

Abhishek Sharma started the tournament with three consecutive ducks. He scored his first runs of the T20 World Cup against South Africa, making 15 in that game. The southpaw adopted a smarter approach against Zimbabwe and smashed 55 off 30 balls. It was an uncharacteristic Abhishek innings, but the runs would surely have given him much-needed confidence ahead of the crucial match against West Indies.
