Karnataka vs J&K Ranji Trophy Final Live
Looking ahead to Day 2 - After such a good start and with more batting still to come, J&K will be eyeing to make the most of the best conditions to bat on Day 2. They will look to pile on the runs and bat Karnataka out of the game while the bowling side searches for early wickets to stem the flow of runs. We will resume proceedings tomorrow at 9.30 am IST (4 am GMT). Cheers for now!
Toil for the Karnataka bowlers - The pacers of Karnataka bowled well in patches but struggled to find consistent breakthroughs on this surface. Only Prasidh Krishna managed to trouble the batters consistently and finished the day with a couple of scalps to his name. Meanwhile, the spinners found it hard to find any assistance from the pitch and went wicketless. Karnataka will need a much better showing in the morning to claw their way back into this final.
Injury scare and Samad brilliance - One concern for the Jammu and Kashmir side would be the injury to their skipper, Paras Dogra, who was hit in the final session of the day. He was forced to leave the field and was replaced by Abdul Samad. The change did not slow the momentum as Samad looked in sublime touch from the outset. He quickly reached a half-century for himself and remained unbeaten at the close of play alongside Pundir to further strengthen the team total.
Pundir and Hassan build the foundation - After a watchful start, Shubham Pundir and Yawer Hassan ensured J&K did not lag in the contest. The duo put together a vital 139-run stand that frustrated the Karnataka bowlers and capitalised on the good batting conditions while they lasted. Although Hassan was eventually dismissed for a well-played 88, Pundir made sure he made his start count. He showed great temperament to reach his century and remains unbeaten at the crease with a magnificent 117.
J&K end Day 1 in total command - It has been a day full of joy for Jammu and Kashmir as they finished the opening day of the Ranji Trophy Final in a position of immense strength. Scoring 284 runs for the loss of just two wickets, they have dictated terms from the very first ball. The batting unit made the most of the favorable conditions to ensure they stayed ahead of the game throughout the three sessions.
