Tokyo:

Switzerland's Viktor Rothlin won the Tokyo Marathon on Sunday, finishing in a personal-best 2 hours, 7 minutes, 23 seconds.

Rothlin, the bronze medalist in the world championships in August in Osaka, broke his personal record of 2:08:20.

''To be third in Osaka and then win here at a place where marathon is so popular is unbelievable,'' Rothlin said. ''I'm so happy I can't put it into words.''

Japan's Arata Fujiwara finished second in 2:08:40, and Kenya's Julius Gitahi was third in 2:08:57.
