MS Dhoni is one of the legendary captains in the history of cricket. Not only for the Indian team but also for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. Ahead of the start of IPL 2024, Dhoni passed the CSK baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for a long time. Dhoni led CSK in 14 of the 16 IPL seasons, helping the side clinch a record-equalling five IPL titles. Apart from his captaincy skills, Dhoni's batting and impact behind the stumps has also played a crucial role in CSK's success over the years.

When asked what is special about MS Dhoni that he gets the best out of the players in the team, Gavaskar in an event hosted by Star Sports, replied, "That's why they say, 'Thala for a reason'."
Dhoni led CSK from the inaugural IPL edition in 2008 to 2023. It was only in 2016 and 2017 when he could not captain the side as CSK were banned during this phase.
The legendary skipper is often credited for shaping the career of many players, some of who are now stars in the Indian cricket team.
"See, there are players from different countries and different cities, you have to bring them together with a singular aim of lifting the IPL trophy. 'In six weeks, we have to win this tournament'. For that, you might have some great players, and you are forced to keep them out due to team combination. But you don't let them feel that they're useless; you keep them as an integral part of the team. MSD has these abilities; that's why he's Thala for a reason," added Gavaskar.
