India vs South Africa Highlights, 1st Test Day 3: India crumbled to 93 all out in their second innings as Temba Bavuma-led South Africa won the first Test in Kolkata by 30 runs. Aiming to script a record Test run chase of 124 at the Eden Gardens, India got off to the worst-possible start, losing openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul for a combined score of 1. Vice-captain Rishabh Pant failed to fire, while cameos by Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel weren't enough. India felt the absence of captain Shubman Gill, who was ruled midway through the match due to a neck injury. South Africa spinner Simon Harmer finished with a match haul of eight wickets. The result marks India's first loss in Kolkata since 2012 and SA's first win in India since 2010. It is also the second-lowest target that India have failed to chase down in their Test cricket history. (SCORECARD)

SA Tour of IND 2025 Highlights - India vs South Africa Score, straight from Eden Gardens, Kolkata:

India vs South Africa LIVE: Thank you!

That's a wrap for our coverage of the first Test between India and South Africa. After dominating the first two days, India have been completely undone on home soil by the reigning WTC winners. Lots to think about for an Indian side still very much in transition.

Do join us for the second Test in Guwahati, starting November 22. Stay tuned to NDTV Sports for all the live and latest sports news. Goodbye!

India vs South Africa LIVE: Gambhir breaks silence on pitch

Gautam Gambhir: "This is exactly the pitch we wanted. The pitch curator was very helpful. This wasn't an unplayable wicket. The skills of the players aren't the issue. We need to, individually and collectively, keep talking about how to absorb pressure. We need to embrace pressure."

India head coach Gautam Gambhir was present alone at the post-match press conference.

India vs South Africa LIVE: Simon Harmer named 'Player of the Match'

Simon Harmer wins the 'Player of the Match' award. No surprises there. 8 wickets, 4 in each innings. He was absolutely incredible today. 14 overs, 4 maidens, 21 runs conceded, 4 wickets taken. Match figures of 8/51.

India vs South Africa LIVE: India suffer huge embarrassment

This is the second-lowest total that India have ever failed to chase down in Test cricket. The lowest came in 1997, when India failed to chase 120 against West Indies in Bridgetown in 1997. The third-lowest since that game was the 147 India failed to chase against NZ at the Wankhede last year.

India vs South Africa LIVE: "Can't dwell on this loss" - Pant

"You can't dwell too much on defeats like this. We should've chased down a total of 120-odd, but the pressure kept building because we lost wickets," says Rishabh Pant in the post-match presentation.

India vs South Africa LIVE: First win for SA in India in 15 years

A famous win for reigning World Test Championship (WTC) winners South Africa. Their first victory in India since February 2010, a gap of nearly 16 years! And they earned it against the odds. Take a bow, Temba Bavuma and Simon Harmer. And don't forget the priceless contributions of Corbin Bosch and Marco Jansen.

India vs South Africa LIVE Score: India 93 ALL OUT! SA WIN!

VICTORY for South Africa! Mohammed Siraj departs first ball, caught at first slip, and South Africa erupt into celebrations! It's all over. India are done and dusted for just 93. No Shubman Gill, so the ninth wicket will be the final wicket.

Fourth home Test loss for Gautam Gambhir as head coach; India's first loss at Eden Gardens since 2012.

IND 93 all out (35)

India vs South Africa LIVE Updates: SIX, then OUT!

SIX, OUT! Axar Patel slams Keshav Maharaj for another maximum, but then departs trying to hit one more big shot. The ball goes really, really high into the air, Temba Bavuma has to cover a lot of ground but he maintains his composure and takes an excellent catch.

South Africa need 1 more wicket to win!

IND 93/8 (34.5)

India vs South Africa LIVE Score: FOUR! SIX! Axar!

Aggressive sweep, FOUR! Next ball, SIX! Axar Patel knows that reducing the runs required is the absolute need of the hour. He seems ready to take risks, and he picks up 10 runs in 2 balls. Axar Patel looking to channel his T20I instincts!

IND 87/7 (34.2)

India vs South Africa LIVE Updates: OUT!

LBW! That is as plumb as it gets. Kuldeep Yadav departs, Simon Harmer strikes again. Fourth wicket for South Africa's masterly off-spinner. Kuldeep takes the review, but hawkeye shows the ball crashing into middle and leg stump.

47 runs still needed. That seems a million miles away!

IND 77/7 (33.2)

India vs South Africa LIVE: Any possibility of Gill returning?

"If things get tight, and India need 15 runs or so, we might see Shubman Gill come out," quips Ravi Shastri on commentary. The possibility of that happening seems highly unlikely given that he has been ruled out of the Test altogether. But we did see Chris Woakes come out to bat with one working arm, so never say never!

India vs South Africa LIVE: OUT!

India's last set batter departs! Washington Sundar, who has defended so resolutely all day, has been undone by part-timer Aiden Markram. Outside edge, and he's caught by Simon Harmer at first slip. No Shubman Gill, so Kuldeep Yadav is in at No. 8.

IND 72/6 (30.2)

India vs South Africa LIVE: India's pitch ploy backfiring

In a recent interview, CAB President Sourav Ganguly confirmed that the track at the Eden Gardens was prepared after the Gautam Gambhir-led Indian camp requested for a pitch to not be watered for 4 days. Looks like India's wish for a spin-friendly pitch is dangerously close to backfiring.

India vs South Africa LIVE: OUT!

GONE! Another massive wicket! Simon Harmer strikes, who else. Ravindra Jadeja is out, LBW! Jadeja goes to block, but the ball crashes onto his toe first. Umpire gives it out. Jadeja takes the DRS, but hawkeye confirms it to be out.

IND 67/5 (27.1)

India vs South Africa LIVE Score: Great running between the wickets

Ever since he's walked into the crease, Ravindra Jadeja has really set the tone with his running between the wickets. Washington Sundar has complied brilliantly, and India are slowly chopping down the required runs with regular ones and twos.

25 overs done. India need 66 more to win.

IND 58/4 (25)

India vs South Africa LIVE Score: 50 up for India

50 comes up for India in the 23rd over. Big cheer from the Eden Gardens crowd. Ravindra Jadeja nudges it to third-man, and the batters scamper two. Jadeja also hit a boundary in the previous over with an aggressive sweep against Harmer.

IND 51/4 (23)

IND vs SA LIVE Score: FOUR!

Important runs! Ravindra Jadeja off the mark with a boundary. Pitched down the leg-side by Marco Jansen, and Jadeja flicks it away for 4 down fine-leg. These two have stitched many long partnerships in recent months, and the need of the hour is to do the same again.

IND 43/4 (20.2)

IND vs SA LIVE Updates: OUT! Rishabh Pant departs!

OUT! Huge, huge wicket! Rishabh Pant is gone, caught and bowled by Simon Harmer! Pant looks to give himself room, tries to hammer it straight, but ends up sending it straight back to Harmer. India lose their fourth wicket. South Africa are favourites now, surely!

Simon Harmer's figures: 7 overs, 4 maidens, 3 runs conceded, 2 wickets!

Gautam Gambhir, sat in the dressing room, does not have an expression on his face. He surely can't believe how India have capitulated today.

IND 38/4 (20)

India vs South Africa LIVE Score: Pant survives ball 1 scare!

Dramatic scenes! Rishabh Pant went for a reverse-sweep on the first ball, but the ball ricocheted off him and was caught by the fielder at forward short-leg. Keshav Maharaj and the South African team were off celebrating, but the umpire did not raise his finger.

SA take the review, and UltraEdge confirms it hit Pant on the arm, not the glove.

IND 36/3 (16)

India vs South Africa LIVE Score: OUT!

Oh dear! Just as we were praising Dhruv Jurel's composure, he's squandered his wicket with a poor shot. A dragged-down delivery from Simon Harmer, Jurel saw the opportunity and went for the big hit, but it goes straight to the fielder at deep mid-wicket. One fielder in the deep on the leg-side, and Jurel has found him.

IND 33/3 (15)

India vs South Africa LIVE Score: Jurel impressing

Dhruv Jurel has looked extremely composed so far. He's faced 33 balls, scoring 13, including three boundaries. Jurel slammed two centuries for India A against SA A in the unofficial Test preceding this match, and he's translating that form into international cricket.

Looks like Gautam Gambhir's call to send Jurel as Shubman Gill's No. 4 replacement is paying off.

IND 32/2 (14)

IND vs SA LIVE: FOUR!

Helped away for 4! Short and down the leg-side from Bosch, Washington stands tall and flicks it very fine for a boundary. Both batters navigating a tricky situation with exceptional composure at the moment.

IND 31/2 (11)

IND vs SA LIVE Score: India 26/2 after 10 overs

10 overs complete in the Indian innings. After a disastrous start, Washington Sundar and Dhruv Jurel have escaped a couple of scares and steadied the ship. India now need less than 100 runs to win.

IND 26/2 (10)

India vs South Africa LIVE: DRS saves Jurel now!

Crucial DRS review taken by Dhruv Jurel! And it's saved him his wicket. Jurel is given out caught behind, but takes the review instantly. UltraEdge confirms that there was NO nick. Next ball, Jurel slams a boundary through square-leg! Eden Gardens cheers in unison.

What's obvious, though, is that India are still being left surprised by the awkward bounce of the Eden pitch.

IND 25/2 (9)

India vs South Africa LIVE: FOUR!

FOUR! Dhruv Jurel flicks one away to fine-leg for 4. Corbin Bosch pitches it short-ish and down the leg-side, and Jurel helps it away to the fence, using Bosch's pace to good effect. Brisk start for India.

IND 21/2 (8.3)

India vs South Africa LIVE: DRS scare!

Last ball of the first over after Lunch, and South Africa use a DRS review, after Dhruv Jurel is trapped on the pads but given not out. Hawkeye shows impact and wickets missing, and India survive the early scare.

IND 16/2 (8)

India vs South Africa LIVE: Second session underway

We are back! This match can go either way. India under pressure, as they aim to pull off a record chase at the Eden Gardens. Dhruv Jurel and Washington Sundar at the crease. Remember, no Shubman Gill for India, he's out with a neck injury. Keshav Maharaj takes the ball for the first time today.

IND 11/2 (7.1)

India vs South Africa LIVE Score: More updates on Gill's injury

Meanwhile, a six-member medical board has been formed at the Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata in order to treat Shubman Gill following his neck injury. X-ray and MRI scans have been conducted, and he was initially admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

India vs South Africa LIVE: Left-handers left

Dhruv Jurel is the last remaining recognized right-handed batter in the Indian batting order. After him, it's a series of left handers - Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav! India will hope it doesn't get to Kuldeep.

India vs South Africa LIVE: LUNCH!

Lunch on Day 1. Phew! That was some session of cricket, but one that has brought South Africa right back into the game. Temba Bavuma and Corbin Bosch played excellent knocks with the bat, and then Marco Jansen made a devastating impact with ball in hand.

India lost both openers for a combined score of 1, and now their hopes are pinned on two batters completely unfamiliar to their batting positions.

IND 10/2 (7) - Lunch

India vs South Africa LIVE: Indian openers' horror show

Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul's aggregate score of 1 is the lowest total by Indian openers in a Test innings at home since Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag did the same against New Zealand at Ahmedabad in 2010.

India vs South Africa LIVE: FOUR!

Boundary for Washington Sundar! Marco Jansen can consider himself unlucky. Washington Sundar gets a thick outside edge, and the ball races away for 4 past gully. Imperative for Washington and Jurel to survive Jansen's new ball spell.

IND 10/2 (5)

India vs South Africa LIVE: Dhruv Jurel in at No. 4

Not Rishabh Pant, but it's Dhruv Jurel in at No. 4 in Shubman Gill's absence, and he slams a boundary first ball! Pitched on the pads by Jansen and helped fine by Jurel. Humongous call taken by head coach Gautam Gambhir, humongous responsibility on Jurel.

IND 5/2 (3)

India vs South Africa LIVE: OUT! KL Rahul departs!

GONE! KL Rahul departs! This is absolute catastrophy for Team India. They need to pull off a record run chase at the Eden Gardens, but they've lost 2 wickets for just 1 run! Marco Jansen has 2 wickets without conceding a single run yet. Short delivery takes Rahul by surprise, and he ends up nicking it and getting caught behind.

IND 1/2 (2.1)

India vs South Africa LIVE: First run for India

First run for India comes after 11 balls. KL Rahul nudges it to mid-on to get off the mark and get the team total ticking. Washington Sundar is in at No. 3 at the other end. Huge responsibility in a new role for the young all-rounder.

IND 1/1 (2)

India vs South Africa LIVE: OUT!

GONE! Caught behind! Yashasvi Jaiswal departs for a duck, and India's aim to pull off the record Test chase in Kolkata has gotten off to the worst possible start. Short from Jansen, Jaiswal ends up nicking it and Verreyne takes an easy catch.

IND 0/1 (0.4)

India vs South Africa LIVE: India need to pull off record chase in Kolkata

Team India will have to script the highest-successful run chase at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The record fourth innings chase so far at the venue is 117, also coincidentally achieved by India against South Africa, back in 2004!

India vs South Africa LIVE: OUT! SA 153 all out!

LBW! What an over from Mohammed Siraj! 2 wickets in 4 balls for the India pacer. Toe-crushing yorker to Maharaj, who is hit plumb on the foot. SA take the review, but it's as plumb as it gets. Temba Bavuma stays not out on 55.

India have to chase down 124!

SA 153 all out (54)

IND Target - 124

India vs South Africa LIVE Score: OUT! BOWLED!

Siraj strikes! A wonderful delivery by Siraj, who makes up for the DRS disappointment just two balls later. The off-stump is broken into two pieces! Simon Harmer left the ball, but it swung back in and knocked him over!

SA 153/9 (53.3)

India vs South Africa LIVE: DRS saves Bavuma!

DRS comes to the rescue! South African captain Temba Bavuma was given out LBW after being trapped on the pads by Mohammed Siraj. But replays showed the ball hit his front pad, which was positioned near leg-stump. Hawkeye confirms that the ball would've missed leg-stump by a mile. Not a good decision by the umpire. India's joy cut short.

SA 152/8 (53.1)

India vs South Africa LIVE: Siraj in to bowl; 150 up for SA

Mohammed Siraj has been introduced into the attack by Rishabh Pant. The spinners have been unable to make a big impact and South Africa have now notched up their 150. The lead is up to 120.

SA 150/8 (52)

India vs South Africa LIVE: Major update on Shubman Gill

A hugely positive update: Shubman Gill's condition has significantly improved and his pain has lessened overnight, NDTV sources can confirm. MRI reports have shown no serious issues.

The Indian captain has also tuned in to the Day 3 action from his hospital bed!

India vs South Africa LIVE: 50 for Temba Bavuma

Half-century for Temba Bavuma! Bit of a lucky inside edge to pick up 4 runs and get to the milestone. The first batter in this match to get to 50; he's done so in 122 balls. Magnificent knock, worth its weight in gold to the Proteas.

Seventh 50+ score in his last 11 Tests for the South African captain!

SA 144/8 (50)

India vs South Africa LIVE Score: BOWLED! Bumrah!

OUT! Ripper! Special delivery from Jasprit Bumrah, Corbin Bosch looks to drive but the ball nips lower and knocks over his stumps. India's pace spearhead gets his first wicket of the second innings. That has sent the Eden Gardens crowd into rapture. Crucial breakthrough for India.

SA 135/7 (47.1)

India vs South Africa LIVE: Gavaskar decodes India's poor start

South Africa have begun really well with the bat, and Sunil Gavaskar on commentary states that it could be the effect of the heavy roller on the pitch. Remember, the batting side gets to choose if they want the roller to be used on the pitch before the start of day's play.

Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also makes an interesting observation.

India vs South Africa LIVE: SIX! SA's lead up to 100

SIX! Corbin Bosch goes big! Fantastic hit from South Africa's No. 9. South Africa's lead goes up to 100! This has been a magnificent cameo so far from Bosch, who has taken the lead when it comes to the run-scoring.

SA 131/7 (45)

India vs South Africa LIVE: Bavuma into the 40s

Temba Bavuma becomes the first batter in the match to enter the 40s. The South African captain has been resilient and hugely crucial to his side's innings so far. How much he scores could well decide the outcome of the game.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah is into the attack! After 8 overs of spin, Pant finally opts for his pace spearhead. 3 off his first over.

SA 123/7 (44)

India vs South Africa LIVE: SA lead up to 90

South Africa's lead is up to 90. Already, this would require India to pull off the second-highest fourth innings chase at the Eden Gardens. Largely successful start to Day 3 for South Africa. Bavuma has held steady, but it's Bosch who has impressed!

SA 120/7 (43)

India vs South Africa LIVE: FOUR!

Kuldeep Yadav into the attack and Corbin Bosch welcomes him with a boundary! Bosch gets onto his back foot and cuts it away hard, through the covers, for 4. Next ball, Bosch brings out the reverse sweep! Looking really confident here.

SA 114/7 (41.2)

India vs South Africa LIVE: India squander DRS

DRS review squandered by India early on Day 3. Bavuma trapped in front of the stumps, leading to a big appeal by Jadeja. The umpire stayed unmoved. Pant and Jadeja had a chat, and India's stand-in captain went ahead with a review. Hawkeye shows pitching outside leg.

SA 107/7 (40.3)

India vs South Africa LIVE: SA 106/7 after 40 overs

40 overs done in the South African innings. Positive start so far by the Proteas. In the 5 overs so far today, Bosch and Bavuma have added 13 runs and looked fairly assured. One boundary. No Jasprit Bumrah yet, remember.

SA 106/7 (40)

India vs South Africa LIVE: 100 up for SA! FOUR!

It's come at a much slower pace than the first innings, but South Africa have crucially got to the three-figure mark. Couple of balls later, Corbin Bosch takes the first risk of the day, brings out an aggressive sweep against Jadeja and executes it perfectly. 4 runs!

SA 104/7 (39)

India vs South Africa LIVE: Pant's captaincy questioned

Interesting decision by Rishabh Pant to not kickstart the day with his premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah. Former India cricketer Murali Kartik questions his decision on commentary, stating that he would've chosen to begin things with Jadeja and Bumrah.

"Pant doesn't want to concede boundaries," says Harsha Bhogle on air.

SA 99/7 (38)

India vs South Africa LIVE: Jadeja from the other end

Ravindra Jadeja, India's best bowler on Day 3, has unsurprisingly been handed the ball from the other end. The left-arm spinner bowls an economical first over of the day, conceding two runs.

SA 98/7 (37)

India vs South Africa LIVE: Play begins on Day 3!

We are LIVE! Day 3 begins at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. South Africa have 3 wickets in hand; Corbin Bosch and Temba Bavuma are at the crease. For India, it will be Axar Patel starting things off.

SA 94/7 (35.1)

India vs South Africa LIVE: Highest successful Test run chases at Kolkata

Only once has a team ever chased down a target of more than 100 in the fourth innings of a Test match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. This happened in 2004, coincidentally in an India-SA game, with the hosts coming out on top.

India vs South Africa LIVE: India to be one batter short

With Shubman Gill being ruled out for the rest of the match, India will have no choice but to play with only 10 batters in their second innings. This could end up being pivotal if the match goes down to the wire.

India vs South Africa LIVE: Shubman Gill ruled out of 1st Test

BCCI Statement: "Captain Shubman Gill had a neck injury on Day 2 of the ongoing Test against South Africa in Kolkata. He was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of day's play.

He is currently under observation in the hospital. He will take no further part in the Test match. He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team."

South Africa vs India LIVE: Spinners dominant on Day 2

The spinners played a huge role for both sides on Day 2. A total of 15 wickets fell on Day 2, with spinners taking 12 of them. All 7 South African wickets in the second innings have been taken by Indian spinners, with Ravindra Jadeja being the main destructor, having scalped 4.

India vs South Africa LIVE: Match likely to end today

Unless South Africa put up a stiff resistance and stick it out with the bat for more than a session, there is a good chance the match comes to an end today. Currently, the Proteas lead by only 63 runs. However, with the Eden pitch turning square, even a target of around 100 would be a challenge for the Indian batters.

India vs South Africa 1st Test LIVE: Rishabh Pant to lead India

In Shubman Gill's absence, it will be vice-captain Rishabh Pant who will take charge of things on the cricket field. Pant impressed with his bowling and fielding changes in the final session yesterday, as India managed to pick up 7 South African wickets.

IND vs SA LIVE: Kolkata Pitch Under Scanner

The pre-match reports suggested that the Eden Gardens pitch will only aid spinners from the second day onwards. However, what happened on the field was quite contrasting. The match seems to be heading towards a result on Day 3, with spinners enjoying plenty of assistance since the start of Day 2. The development is bound to trigger an intense debate on social media.

India vs South Africa LIVE: Gill In ICU For Observation

Shubman Gill has been kept in ICU for observation. A critical care panel has also been formed for the India captain, as a precautionary measure. Here's the complete medical report on Shubman Gill's situation.

India vs South Africa LIVE: Axar Admits Concern Over Day 3 Batting

India all-rounder Axar Patel is keen to not have his team chase a target of more than 125 runs in the Kolkata Test. With the pitch expected to behave even more erratically, batting on Day 3 is expected to be even tougher.

"From one end it feels like it's going straight, but from the other end everything is happen. Have to play attacking cricket as a batter. Have to convert loose balls and keep an attacking mindset. Can't have a defensive mindset because you're never in. When you know there's something in it for the bowlers, you can get carried away by the thought of bowling some magic balls. Patience is key. If we can keep them under 125, it should be chaseable," Axar said.

Ind vs SA LIVE: Will Gill Be Ready For The Second Test?

On Shubman Gill's participation for the Guwahati Test, it will depend on the speed of his recovery and it is impossible to say for sure either way at this point in time. There is doubt but all hope is not lost yet. The management and fans are keeping their fingers crossed, hoping he recovers faster than expected and makes it back.

India vs South Africa LIVE: Shubman Gill Injury Update

It has been reliably learned that Shubman Gill will stay in the hospital today. He will have no further role in this Test match. The India skipper has been admitted under Dr. Saptarshi Basu. A medical board has also been formed, but only as a precautionary measure. The board includes specialists like neurosurgeons, neurologists, and cardiologists.

India vs South Africa LIVE: Big Shubman Gill Setback

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Day 3 of the First Test between India and South Africa in Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Ahead of the start of play on Sunday, India have received some upsetting news over the health of their skipper, Shubman Gill. The top-order batter, who was admitted to a hospital due to a neck injury on Day 2, is unlikely to play any further role in the remainder of the match. Hence, India are set to be a batter short in the second innings.
