1st ODI: No Test redemption as India go down to England by 9 runs

January 11, 2013 20:36

It was a shoddy performance to say the least by MS Dhoni's men as England took full advantage to complete an easy victory in the end. The Indian batsmen gave away good starts while the bowlers never turned up. England though won crucial moments of the game in all facets.

Alastair Cook just loves Indian bowlers and pitches. His Test form continued with another fifty to his name. His 75 went a long way in establishing the platform for the visitors on a dead track. (Photo credit: BCCI)

India did comeback into the game briefly as Bell was dismissed run-out after a direct hit from Ajinkya Rahane. Cook was dismissed soon after by Suresh Raina who was in the middle of a brilliant spell. (Photo credit: BCCI)

This was all the Men in Blue could manage to do well, strike poses, as all England batsmen got off to starts and never let the bowlers in. Raina and Ravindra Jadeja were the pick of the bowlers. (Photo credit: BCCI)

Samit Patel might not have done too well in Tests but he justified his inclusion in the ODI side with a bang. His 44 off 20 and 38 coming off the last two overs for England went a long way in helping the three lions to register 325/4. (Photo credit: BCCI)

Gambhir scored his run-a-ball fifty to settle some nerves after Rahane's dismissal. Sanity did not last long though as Gambhir fell soon after for 52 to give away a great opportunity. (Photo credit: BCCI)

Virat Kohli failed yet again to continue his poor run of form but Yuvraj Singh looked to take the game away from England with a blistering knock. All seemed well again before Yuvi's soft dismissal at short fine. (Photo credit: BCCI)

Skipper Dhoni and Suresh Raina then looked to take India home. At one point, it did look as though match was well within India's reach before a flurry of 'soft dismissals'. First Raina and then Dhoni went in quick succession to land heavy blows. (Photo credit: BCCI)

James Tredwell with his 4/44 was the pick of the bowlers and he displayed what Indian spinners could not. It remains to be seen whether the Men in Blue learn anything from this or just continue their downslide. (Photo credit: BCCI)
