Virginia Beach:
The USA gained their first victory in the six-nation Champions Challenge at Virginia Beach when they beat Spain 2-1 on Thursday.
Dina Rizzo put the United States ahead in the 30th minute when she capitalised on the American's first penalty corner of the game. Rizzo turned in a shot from Kelly Doton.
United States goalkeeper Barbara Weinberg made her first Champions Challenge appearance and made seven saves, including a fine stop to deny Nuria Camon.
Robyn Kenney doubled the hosts' lead in the 46th minute, scoring her first international goal. She drilled the ball home from the edge of the circle.
With the last play of the game and with the final whistle about to blow, Spain pulled a goal back.
From a penalty corner, Rocio Ybarra's shot was deflected in by Silvia Munzo. It was no more than a consolation as the USA ran out 2-1 winners.
The win put the USA in fifth place in the tournament standings and set up a rematch with Spain in the 5th/6th place match on Saturday. (AP)
