Dehradun:
Football in Uttaranchal is a rare sight but with the emergence of players like Jatin Bist and Shyam Thapa, the game is making progress in the hilly region.
In its bid to promote the sport, the District Football Association of Uttaranchal felicitated two of its most prominent players.
"We are very young and it is a small state. If we begin coaching the result will definitely come in 10 years. There are a lot of sportsmen from Uttaranchal who are playing in Mohan Bagan, East Bengal," said Shyam.
Desire to excel
Thapa, a bronze medallist at the Asian games in 1970 and Bist were both in agreement that the most important ingredient for any sport is the desire to excel.
"I have come across a lot of boys here who lack confidence but they should think that if Baichung and Alvid can perform well, why cant we?" said Jatin Bist, Indian Football Player.
For the past few decades, there has scarcely been any progress in the development of football in Uttaranchal. But the young players might just bring back a magnificent era in football.
