Uruguayan forward Abel Hernandez was robbed at gun-point after returning from training with Palermo, Ansa reported.

Having left training on Wednesday evening, Hernandez was sitting in his car with a female passenger when he was approached by a man in his 20s armed with a pistol.

The man threatened Hernandez by putting the gun in his mouth and robbed him of a watch and his passenger of a pair of earrings.

The 20-year-old called the police on the Italian island of Sicily and was said to be unhurt but visibly shocked.

Hernandez has appeared for his country once, also scoring a goal in the 2-0 friendly defeat of Angola last year.
