Udine:

Vincenzo Iaquinta scored a hat trick as Udinese beat Panathinaikos 3-0 in a Group C Champions League match on Wednesday. Iaquinta headed in the opening goal in the 28th minute at Friuli stadium. He netted again in the 73rd on a quick counterattack, beating goalkeeper Mario Galinovic and sliding the ball into the open goal. Iaquinta scored his third just three minutes later with a left-footed diagonal shot from inside the area in front of a crowd of about 25,000 at Friuli stadium. He nearly scored a fourth in injury time, but Panathinaikos defender Nasief Morris cleared off the goal-line. Good play "I could not have done any better, three goals on the debut in the Champions League," said Iaquinta, who played in Italy's recent World Cup qualifiers. "It was a great performance by the whole team." Panathinaikos' best chance came in the 34th when Argentine Ezequiel Gonzalez' curling free kick went just wide. Udinese, which was making its debut in the group phase of the tournament, is also equal first in the Serie A with Juventus and Livorno. Udinese plays next powerhouse Barcelona in Spain on September 27. Barcelona and Udinese are tied at three points atop Group C. (AP)
