Buenos Aires:

Arsenal scored a first-half goal and drew 1-1 with Brazilian club Goias on Wednesday night, sending the Argentine club to the quarterfinals of the Copa Sudamericana.

Alejandro Gomez put Arsenal ahead in the 37th minute enough to give the Argentine club a 4-3 aggregate victory.

Harison equalized with off a left-footer for Goias seven minutes later, but it was not enough to prevent Arsenal from advancing to a quarterfinal meeting with the winner between North American clubs Chivas of Mexico and four-time US champion DC United.

Opening the match with the advantage from last week's 3-2 victory in Brazil, Arsenal controlled the ball early.

In the second half, Goias were denied go-ahead goal when Leandro's header was batted away by Arsenal keeper Mario Cuenca.

Arsenal had a chance at some insurance in the 74th minute off a corner kick by Pablo Garnier that Goias keeper Harlei managed to block.

Diego Villar of Arsenal tried to convert the rebound bur Harlei denied the Argentines again.
