Dozens of people have been arrested in Uruguay after riots broke out at a concert before the World Cup qualifier against Australia. There was arson and looting in Montevideo on Tuesday before the Uruguay - Australia play off had even kicked off.
Atleast 70 people were arrested by police after the violence broke out during a pre-game concert hosted by a local television station. The violence erupted as 30,000 people gathered in the city's bus terminal to watch the match on a giant screen.
"An uncommon violence, they were out of control. There are more than 70 people detained, some of them have been identified as looters," said Guillermo Sterling, Interior Minister, Uruguay.
There have been no reports of serious injuries. Uruguay host the second leg of the play-off in Montevideo on Sunday, with the winners filling the 32nd and last remaining place in the World Cup finals.
