Peru's record goalscorer Paolo Guerrero on Tuesday announced his retirement from international football at the age of 41.

Paolo Guerrero scored twice in a 3-0 friendly win over Saudi Arabia to cap an emotional week for the Peru captain who was cleared to play at the World Cup after his long legal battle against a 14-month drugs suspension.

The 33-year-old attacker, who plays for Brazilian giants Flamengo, was handed the ban after "testing positive for cocaine metabolite benzoylecgonine".

The Peruvian football federation (FPF) said that the suspension had been ordered by world governing body FIFA.
