It's no big deal for the most valuable club in the world to win a match, but Manchester United's recent triumph over Chelsea in the English Premier League has made many suggest that there are only a handful of players who have the biggest hand in placing the team where it is currently.
So it's not one particular match but the team's performance throughout the season, eventually making it to the Champions League final and winning their 19th English Premier League title, which has been looked at with approving eyes by even the most vocal of Manchester United's critics.
Credit to the loyal veterans of the club at present - Paul Scholes, former captain Ryan Giggs and coach Sir Alex Ferguson. The three of them are the most experienced members with their own set of achievements on and off the field but all of their laurels merging towards one common objective - making Manchester United hold their reigns as one of the most successful football clubs in the world.
Starting with the one behind all the great achievements on the field, it's the man who has been putting in all the hard work off the field for the last 25 years and counting. This year's achievement was the 12th Premier League title for Sir Ferguson as the coach of Manchester United. He started his journey as the coach of this club way back in 1986. Whether it's the fanatic heights or the dramatic falls -this man has taken the club through all the highs and lows.
Right from the first season United played under Fergie, the team has experienced nothing but improvement in their form. There have been a little bit of lows for a short time in the middle years, but Fergie saw the team through that bad phase and made the team win their third successive Premier League title in the year 2000. The team has never seen a fall in their performance since then. This season, he reached the highest point of his career as coach when the Red Devils made a record of winning the maximum number of Premier league titles.
While Fergie has been a hero for the Red Devils off the field, let's not forget the heroes who have made it all happen on the field. The first mention would inevitably be of Ryan Giggs, the former captain of Manchester United. Obviously so as he has been playing in the club for the 21 years. He was brought in by Fergie back in the 1990-91 season when Giggs was just 17 years old and became the youngest player to join the first team. He soon became the team's first choice left winger and was counted as one of British football's most prodigious young players.
Ryan Giggs has been continuing his pacy and stylish football for years now, and even in this season, he played an instrumental role in Manchester United's all-round success. The fact that he has never been sent off the field playing for Manchester United - just shows the greatness of this man and his game.
Paul "one-club man" Scholes is another war-horse of the Red Devils. Right from the age of 14 when he started training, he has always been associated with Manchester United. Scholes' versatility on the field has always been proved by his ability to play as a midfielder and as a forward attack position whenever there has been a need. The 2002-03 season in which he netted a career-high twenty goals in all competitions then, is just another shining example of his true class on the 53-yards.
Scholes is also one of the few who has seen this club's highs and lows over the years and has always served his team regardless. The only major career blow that Scholes had to bear was his knee ligament injury in the later half of 2007. But his resilience and love for his team made him come back in 2008 and has been serving the club since.
This trio - consisting of a legendary coach and two great footballers have been like three bottles of "vintage wine" that provide the perfect flavour to fans of the club to savour, again and again. The contributions of these three great men are unforgettable. Even if age and years compel them to end their services for the club, the reminiscence of their hard work and contributions will keep on playing the dual role of the guiding light and the driving force for the team's success in the future years.
