After failing to win the inaugural season of the Indian Super League (ISL), FC Goa expects to put up a better performance in the second edition and win the football title.
"It is good to see people's support even during hardest time for the team that we had during the last season. I have been optimistic about my work, my knowledge and my team. We could have won the title last time," FC Goa's Chief coach Zico said at a press conference here.
"I hope we will have the same support during the season two like last year. I am encouraged to do the good work this year and win the title," he said.
"It feels fantastic to be in Goa for ISL's second season. We performed well as a team in the first season for the ISL and I look forward to an even better season this year," Zico added. Team owners Srinivas Dempo and Dattaraj Salgaoncar were present on the occasion.
The chief coach, arrived in the coastal state ahead of the domestic draft of ISL 2015 scheduled to take place in Mumbai on July 10.
He held meeting with the owners to decide the strategy for the upcoming season. The Second season of the Indian Super League will see FC Goa play its opening match on its home turf on October 4 with the Delhi Dynamos.
"People of Goa always made us feel special. It was bad luck that we lost the last season due to penalty kick or else we would have won the cup," said Dempo.
"We are bullish on our future achievement. Clean game and discipline is the style of Zico," he said. When asked why FC Goa has failed to retain Goan players in the team, Salgaoncar said the Goan players are in demand all across the clubs.
"But wait and see till the end of month we will have many Goan players," he said. The club has retained its players like Romeo Fernandes, Mandar Rao Desai, Laxmikant Kattimani, Narayan Das, Debabrata Roy and Bikramjit Singh along with international player Gregory Arnolin (FRA).
