Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has expressed his surprise at the ease of his side's victory in Sevilla.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick as Real Madrid won 6-2 in the Sanchez Pizjuan Stadiumto go back to the top of the Spanish Primera Liga and forget the bad taste left in the mouth following last week's 1-3 humiliation at home to FC Barcelona. (Click here for the match report)
"I didn't expect to win by the margin, as it is not a normal winning margin," Mourinho was quoted saying by Xinhua.
Mourinho's side had won by the same margin last season, but the visit to the Pizjuan was always looked on as a place where Madrid could drop points.
"Sevilla are always a difficult rival, but the game turned into what we have all seen. I hoped to win and to be leaders going into the winter break," he continued.
Madrid led 3-0 at halftime with two goals from Ronaldo, who ended up with a hat-trick, and Javier Callejon, who continued his impressive run of form.
"It is normal that Cristiano plays like this and scores goals, just as it was normal for him not to score against Barcelona. Football is like that. We didn't have 20 or 30 chances to score, just six or seven, but we were the better side, but maybe the result doesn't tell the whole truth about the difference between the two sides. It would be normal to win here, but by a much smaller margin," added the Madrid coach.
Mourinho also praised goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who made two important saves when the score was just 1-0 to Madrid, but Mourinho preferred to praise his entire team, who now go into the New Year with a three point advantage over second placed FC Barcelona.
