Lens and Rennes played out a 0-0 draw in the final game of the weekend in the French League on Sunday. In the corresponding fixture last season, Lens won 5-2. But there was little chance of a goal feast in this game, with Rennes showing little interest in attacking during a dull first half. The game almost came to life early in the second half, when Lens captain Jerome Leroy hit a stunning volley which brought out the best from Rennes goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson. Lens had few clear-cut chances and their frustration in-front of goal was summed up when Daniel Cousin hit a post from close range. Youssouf Hadji was sent off for the visitors in the closing stages for his second yellow card, in just his second start of the season. Incredibly, Rennes nearly stole all three points when Stephane M'bia Etoundi unleashed a speculative long-range effort. Sadly for fans of goals, Lens goalkeeper Charlkes Itandje was all that finished up in the back of the net. Lens' fifth straight draw has them seventh on the ladder, while Rennes rise to 15th. (AP)
