Athens:
Greece's sports minister warned soccer clubs on Tuesday that teams could lose points in the league next season if their fans set fires in the stadium during games.
"These fires destroy any meaning of sport," George Lianis said. "It's up to clubs to control their supporters' behavior."
The warning followed violence at the Greek Cup final on Saturday. Fans of Aris Thessaloniki went on the rampage and started fires after their team lost to crosstown PAOK.
Fires were also started at a key May 11 league game between archrivals Olympiakos Piraeus and Panathinaikos Athens.
Lianis said he would propose changes to sporting legislation to impose the penalties. (AP)
