Port-of-Spain:
Defender Cyd Gray will take over from the injured Dwight Yorke as captain of Trinidad and Tobago against Japan in a friendly on Wednesday.
Yorke strained his left groin in preseason practice with Sydney FC, and following a MRI he was advised to rest for a few days.
He was expected to visit a groin specialist this week.
Gray will lead the Soca Warriors in his 42nd appearance since his debut in 2001 against Guatemala.
He started in Trinidad and Tobago's first two World Cup matches before a knee injury against England ruled him out of the Paraguay clash.
World Cup midfielder Aurtis Whitley also withdrew from the trip to attend to urgent family business, and was replaced by his San Juan Jabloteh clubmate Kerry Baptiste. (AP)
