Harrogate:
A former professional soccer player died after collapsing on the field during an English semipro game on Saturday.
Matt Gadsby, who has played with English teams Walsall and Mansfield, collapsed after 20 minutes in Hinckley's match at Harrogate Town.
The 27-year-old defender fell to the ground near his team's penalty area while play was at the opposite end of the field. He was treated by paramedics but died at the hospital, Harrogate Town said on its web site.
"The medics were out on the pitch within seconds and their treatment was first class and they did everything they could along with the staff at the hospital, which was next door to the ground,'' Hinckley chairman Kevin Downes said.
The match in the Conference North division was abandoned. (AP)
