Sao Paulo:
Former Brazil striker Edmundo has been arrested for his role in a car crash that killed three people in 1995.
Police said they found Edmundo in a Sao Paulo flat after receiving an anonymous tip early on Thursday. A judge issued a warrant for his arrest on Tuesday.
The 40-year-old television commentator was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in 1999 for causing the car crash four years earlier. He lost an appeal, but legal procedures kept the conviction from officially taking effect until the judge's decision on Tuesday.
Edmundo's lawyers will appeal, saying the time limit for the conviction had expired. Edmundo, who played in the 1998 World Cup, was initially sentenced to more than four years in partial confinement.
