England became the second biggest team to crash out of the World Cup early. This after defending champions Spain were forced to pack their bags early in another group. Now, there is possibly another giant in international football staring at a possible early return - signs are ominous for Italy in Group D.
Shocked by a spirited performance from a young Costa Rican side, Italians were left bamboozled in their 0-1 defeat on Friday night. While the result meant England were dumped out, the Azzuries would be better off not taking their task at hand lightly.
The team may have won its match against a hapless English side - one already battered by its media back home. The abject surrender to Costa Rica though would be an emergency call to dump complacency and fight harder - the opponent ahead is formidable after all.
Uruguay may have not had a tournament without any blemishes. Their loss against Costa Rica was as much of an upset as it was for Italy. Under Luis Suarez though, the team picked itself up and delivered a cruel and crushing blow to the Three Lions. If momentum counts even the slightest in football, Uruguay may well sail their way past the Italians.
Not that the Italian team is a pushover just because of a single upset.
The side - ranked ninth in the world - touched Brazilian shores with an army of attackers. While the likes of Mario Balotelli may have been on a high after the opening win against England, the team will now need to step back, redraw their plans and go on a well-calculated offensive if they are to make an impact and advance.
Else the flight back of yet another European team will leave an entire continent mourning in unison.
