Ex-England Star Kerry Dixon Jailed For Pub Assault

Former Chelsea and England striker Kerry Dixon was jailed for nine months Friday after being found guilty of assaulting a man in a bar in an attack described as "sickening".

But the assault on 38-year-old father-of-two Ben Scoble in May last year was caught on CCTV.

Judge Barbara Mensah said the attack was "shocking and sickening to watch" and that the violence used was "disproportionate, unnecessary and completely over the top".

Dixon, who scored 147 goals for Chelsea and earned eight caps for England, had pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, claiming he had acted in self defence.

However, Dixon was convicted by a jury after a five-day hearing with the judge also describing the attack as "completely unprovoked".
